We were all very impressed by Dunkerron woods. After an overnight crossing from Pembroke to Roslaire we were desperate to get into the accommodation so arrived at 4pm as instructed. Surprisingly no 6 ( 4 bedroom property) was not available even though email correspondence definitely led me to believe that I had booked it!
Our party of 8 were shown to a different lodge. There we found it was only a 3 bedroom lodge. The man in reception was very apologetic but initially stated that he had no other 4 bedroom lodges available. He made a few phone calls when I showed him the email that showed my 4 bedroom booking and that I expected the mistake rectified.
Eventually he had to move a family out of a 4 bedroom lodge ( strangly they had booked only a 3 bedroom lodge!) then he offered us a 4 bedroom (no 17)
The lodge was great and we enjoyed the stay. Lots of beautiful scenery and accomplished our goal of climbing Carrauntoohil even though the weather was not kind to us.
Upon leaving €33 were retained out of our €100 deposit to pay for the utilities. Another surprise as when I booked and paid for the booking one of the advantages to book it was that utilities were included. This was also on the email correspondence.
All in all we all enjoyed the stay and would definitely recommend Dunkerron Woods.
Our little family of 6...4 adults /2 kids spent a week here in August....it was fantastic,I would even go so far as to say it was our best holiday at home ( in Ireland) we've ever had.The quiet wooded setting in which the homes are nestled was beautifull, right down to the little wooded trail leading away off down to the waters edge. The homes themselves were great, large spacious, modern, all mod cons...even had picnic table and bbq.I really cant say enough good things about this holiday property. It was about 3 minutes drive from Kenmare, which is full of fabulous restaurants, and lively pubs...( see my other reviews on Kenmare ;o) )...the homes were all detached properties, each surrounded by trees and plants, shrubs etc...wonderfull...The cost of accommodation was in my opinion brilliant for the week. The management and staff were kind and very helpful, a young lad arrived to show us whats what, with the water and heating etc...the manager Cathy was warm and welcoming. We even asked if per chance we could rent another tv for the kids room,as we brought the xbox for them for the evenings,or jus incase weather was not the usual blistering sunshine our fair isle is renowned for ...( I jest.....its Ireland people,it rains...get used to it and bring an umbrella) ;o)
The very next morning,A gentleman arrived with TV in hand....no charge at all...kids were chuffed and all was well.I would highly recommend staying here,it was just perfect....almost...2 small points...there was no Wi-Fi...well there was,but it was at a cost of I think €15 per week...per device....there was like 5 devices with us that week so we passed...did the kids no harm to look up from their tablets etc and take in their surroundings...second point actually had nothing to do with the property,we were told we could use the nearby kenmare bay hotels leisure facilities, for a fee...so we assumed it would be a discounted rate at the very least,,which were about 3 minutes drive away...however,the leisure centre wanted €30 for the four of us to have a swim and only between noon and 4pm...so a bit disgruntled we passed... fortunatly there is no shortage of things to do in this part of the country.anyway highly recommend and will definitely return....overall 10/10....great great stay....
