“beautiful as ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2012

Spent a fortnight in Paradise ( for the eighth time now ) and are still enchanted . Convenient location not far from the airport, but giving you the impression of secludedness . Clean, very well kept island, efficient and speedy roomboy , friendly staff all around and - to our palates - very tasty food !!!! Had a beach bungalow on the east side of the island , there was some renovation / upgrading going on on that side but they made every effort to do it as smoothly and undisturbing as possible - successful.
If you're looking for a great lagoon to paddle , some lush scenery together with a friendly atmosphere and tasty food within easy reach of Hulhule airport , Paradise is a more than good choice .

Paradise island is meant for large groups, and not as an exotic getaway for couples. The resort sprawls all across the island, so make sure you ask for rooms that have the water view. There are plenty of water sport activities and the snorkelling is great. Food is AWESOME, with plenty, plenty of choices for various palettes! Since you are confined to the island, the food is definitely something you can look forward to. Drinks, as with every Maldivian resort are expensive (starting $5 for a beer). Don't expect much from the rooms, they are basic and functional and good for rest breaks from the beach! Overall, lots to do (all the indoor and outdoor sports you can imagine), staff is OK not excessively friendly, but that's understandable given the huge numbers of people who come into the resort every day! We were a group of 10 and we absolutely had a great time (this was my second visit to the resort).

This is a 3* star rating hotel.
Room:
We stayed in a beach bungalow that was enought for us. The room was nothing special, was very basic, but has AC, was clean and the bed was very good. We didn't needed more. Every day we had 2 bottles of water, tea and coffe for free.

Main restaurant
we were with full pension so we had our meals in the main restaurant.
The restaurant has a very short time for dinner which creates great confusion when the hotel is full.

Dive Center
we went to the Maldives for diving, so we spent most of our time here. the staff is very professional and friendly.
The dive spots were all nice, but the Manta Point was incredible! recommend!
The night dive is also very good :)

Beach
We enjoyed the beach near the restaurant. On the other side of the island (were was our room) the beach is also good, but it is shallow.

Yes, is this hotel is expensive but is one of the most cheap in Maldives, so don't expect too much. if you are looking for an luxury and very beautiful resort this is not the place for you.

Since this was our first visit, we left the arrangement to the travel agent and their tour operators. They in turn on sold us to their Maldives associates. While touring Sri Lanka, we received phone calls from the Maldives agent, telling us we should be aware that the specific flights from Male in our tour brochure had not been in operation a long time ago, and what they could do was to put us in temporary accommodation until an arrangement comes to hand for the stay of 6 days. After 3 hours of to-and-fro, we were put into Paradise Island Resort.

We were collected immediately and put into the speed boat upon arrival at 9:30 pm, and then were warmly greeted at the reception. Since we missed our dinner for the evening, we were told, we would be compensated with a meal upon departure.

The meet-n-greet staff escorted us to our room, and when seeing that the arrangement for the bedding were not what we requested for, advised us to call Housekeeping immediately. We did as she suggested. After waiting for an hour, we called again. We were told that Housekeeping would not comply, as being late in the evening. Went to the reception, and were told that it was not their problem, as they did exactly to the travel agent/tour operator's instructions. After a lengthy negotiation, the front desk then got us into a golf cart and we believed we were on our road to paradise.

Upon arrival at another room, the tobacco stench was so strong that the porter had to run out to get a breadth of fresh air. We found it rather offensive since we asked specifically for non-smoking rooms. Off we went to the front desk again. No, there was no duty-manager to solve our problem. Again after bouts of negotiations, someone came out from behind the wall as a 'customer relations' and went through the list of vacant rooms with us. We could see that their occupancy was less than 50%. Finally we were settled into a room, just for the night. The porter helped us made the bedding. It must have been passed 1 a.m. then.

Eventually we were put into another room for the rest of our 5-day stay. Upon arrival at the newly allocated room, a staff came and asked whether we took away their hair dryer. Why would I take a hair dryer which was nailed to the wall? So things were put to rest.

I can see why the previous reviews questioned about the star rating of this institution. The first room we were allocated had a 32" flat screen TV, hangers in the closet, full set of towels, guest toiletries, etc. The furnishings were clean and in excellent condition, though a little dated. I believe this was the room we paid for. The smoke-filled room looked like the guests had just vacated; the third room was sparse, had only but one bath towel to be shared. The room we settled in had a 20" CRT TV, one cake of hand soap, one hand towel and one bath towel. I struck up a friendship with the cleaning staff and eventually we had the full set of towels to go for the rest of our stay. Guest amenities were basic - shower gel, shampoo, and nothing else. It was a far cry from the first room we were originally allocated for.

To upgrade to their over-the-water villas? Why should we throw good money after bad?

The rest of our stay was restful, and enjoyable. We had the privilege of sharing the same beach, dining in the same restaurants, doing all activities with the room guests who stay in the rooms with 5-star ratings.

On the night prior to our departure, we did as instructed and told the counter staff. The instructions were written down for us. We had to check out by 12 noon and therefore had the bags ready for collection by that time.

On the day of departure, at about 10 a.m., the same cleaning staff who queried about the hair dryer appeared. Asked again for the missing item. Picked up the phone to report the finding. Housekeeping asked to speak to me. He repeated the question many times. Why would I take their hair dryer? They can search our bags if not satisfied.

At 11:30 a.m., a knock on the door to announce that the porter was there to collect our bags. If not ready, we were told, our alternative was to leave our bags by the door.

We left the room at 12, settled our bills, and asked for the meal that was promised upon arrival. No such arrangement, the front desk said. If we wished to eat, we had to pay.

That was our experience with Paradise. Overall, I find the staff friendly and extremely helpful. However, they had to do what the management required of them. Somehow the suits have lost the plot on how to run a business in the service industry, and particularly in this economic climate.

As for the rooms, I believe we paid a lot for a 3-star accommodation.

Room Tip: Do a stock take with the staff immediately when in the assigned room.

Excellent hotel, proffessional services.
Reachable from the Mali airport by boat (savings on heli).
Warm welcome, fast and proffessional reception desk.
Accommodation in the new modern water villas or beach houses. We had our appartment directly on sandy beach, the room was very well equipped, wide and comfortable bed, air-con with digital remote, fully filled fridge (water, soft drinks, snaks, sweets). Big bathroom together with a toilet, private shower outside of the bathroom. Small terrace with sunbeds on the beach side and another possibility to wash your hands or feet outside. Everything new and clean. Perfect service. Privacy feeling,
We had a fullboard, all the food we tasted during our stay in the main restaurant was just excellent, and we are gurmans, I must say. International couisine, very wide choise. There is a possibility of an excellent Italian and Japanese restaurant, too, and great Heaven Bar in between for a coffee f.e.
Beautiful beech with corals and colourful fishes in such a clear water, possibility of some trips or diving and others. Spas for masages and relax. Pharmacy. Small suvenir shop by reception. Orchids everywhere in the garden, when you walk among the ammenities.
Simply, no complaint at all, everything was just perfect. I can only reccommend this resort.
