We decided to try out this restaurant. It is small and has limited seating and took some time to be seated, we were in no hurry for lunch so that was not a problem. Our server was new and getting to know her way around. She was very friendly. It did take a while to get our garlic cheese bread and then the cheese was somewhat burnt but it was good and the dipping sauce was great. We each had a slice of pizza and it was also very good. I wanted to try the spaghetti, the table across from us had it and it looked like they were enjoying it. Maybe when we return to the area I can try it.

The food is very good - all handmade and consistent quality. The atmosphere is nothing special but the service is quick and all the wait staff are great.

We're originally from Connecticut, where awesome Italian food flows like running water. We now live in the South, where good pizza and Italian family restaurants are rare to find. Because Virginia is still kind of the South, our expectations for Il Castello were rather modest. Boy, were we surprised! We got treated to our first taste of totally awesome pizza in a long time! It was as good as, if not better than, the real Italian pizza we grew up with in the New Haven CT area. We brought some back to the hotel, and it was even awesome reheated!
We also loved our friendly waitress and the cozy, castle-like atmosphere to eat in. It's a family restaurant run by Italian immigrants. Everybody was so sweet. Perhaps the service was a bit slow, but for great pizza, it's worth the wait.
Also don't forget to order a homemade dessert. We had two cake slices and they were a dream come true.

Stopped in on the way back from Va Beach. Hostess couldn't put her cell ohone aay long enough to clean a table and seat us. We ended up with two servers. Gentleman server was good, lady, not so much. Again, the food is good and price is reasonable, but service needs tremendous improvement

Stopped here for dinner on our way home from a special event. The restaurant wasn't crowded since it was just the beginning of the dinner hour. We were quickly seated and our server was prompt. Everything went downhill from there. We ordered garlic knots as an appetizer and subs for the meal. Our server came to the table just before bringing our subs to apologize. The kitchen staff hadn't read the entire order. Our subs were ready but they never made the appetizer. Things continued their downhill slide from their. I ordered the Italian sub which I considered a safe bet. I was wrong. Three rolled slices of ham with a thin slice of salami left me unimpressed. Continuing the pattern my wife ordered an Eggplant Parmesan sub. It came dry but the server was happy to bring a cup of sauce. The last straw came when she discovered that only half of her sub was eggplant. The other half was chicken. We called the server over and gave her what was left of our meals. She apologized repeatedly for the problems. She returned momentarily, still apologizing, and informed us that the manager told her she could remove my wife's sub but mine still had to be paid. The manager never once came out to even offer an apology. Our waitress was simply hung out to dry. Needless to say, we won't be back again.
