“Quirky and comfortable”
Reviewed 4 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We rented this cottage to accommodate our extended family, which included four small children, and to entertain friends and other family members - including more children. The cottage is very well equipped so that it was possible to cook and cater for a large number of people. On arrival everything was very clean and ready for us. The interesting architecture of the place was very much admired by guests and the children loved exploring it and playing hide and seek. The bedroom with the bunk was a treat for children, but not suitable for adults. The beds were very comfortable, though some of the lounge furniture had been well-used, but with so many children around that was no bad thing. The lounge is a beautiful light room, up some steep steps, but a wonderful venue for a get-together. Bakewell is always very busy and the cottage is on a main road, but the double glazing kept the sound out effectively. There was lots happening, with it being a bank holiday, but the downside was our guests were stuck in traffic. Bakewell has very little free parking, so we were glad of the courtyard accommodating three cars. It is a narrow entrance and requires care on access, especially with oncoming traffic. Expensive public parking is available but on the other side of the town. A 'secret' lane, just 5 minutes walk across the river, was available for extra parking. Lots of very nice walks lead away from the cottage and Bakewell has some very good play facilities for children. The steps up to the garden are a bit perilous for small children and anyone with mobility problems would find them pretty impossible. The views from the terraces at the top are lovely but the weather militated against sitting out on the 'Gin terrace' - but given any sunshine, that would have been very pleasant. We had planned to BBQ, but would have had to bring our own, but the weather was too cold anyway. Prior to our stay we found the owner very helpful and flexible. We had seen in the games room, but didn't use it because we couldn't get the key to work. It wouldn't have added much to our srtay anyway as the cdhildren preferred roaring around. A particular recommendation is an evening stroll along the Monsal Trail and a meal at Hassop Station - but book first. Even with childsren it takes less than 30 minutes.

“Everything you could want, but still cosy and characterful”
Reviewed 3 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We had a wonderful stay in the beautiful Victoria cottage. A lovely place to stay and we'll definitely return. It manages to be cosy, cottagey and quaint, and yet still has a brilliant, fully equipped kitchen and a massive lounge with all you could want. Most impressed with the piano that was in tune. Lots of info about surrounding areas and history, clean, well decorated and designed, and close to the heart of Bakewell. A lovely place to return to after a blustery January walk.

“Great space for a group or family”
Reviewed 21 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Can thoroughly recommend Victoria Cottages. It was very easy to feel at home at the house. The quality of the accommodation surpasses most similar self catering holiday lets we've experienced. The garden, the wisteria-covered terrace with its lovely views, the large living room and the nice big table for shared meals are all wonderful. The location is also fantastic. We particularly enjoyed: the delicatessen a minute down the road, an independent wine retailer just opposite, walks direct from the house, Thornbridge Brewery tours five mins away, the Monsal Trail - excellent for taking children on easy cycle rides, Hasslop Station café (wonderful building, excellent cafe) and cycle hire, with a book shop! Excellent pizza takeaways in town, long cycle rides over the peaks direct from the door, great walks and an absolute gem of a pub in the form of the tiny Packhorse Inn at Little Longstone.

“Perfect”
Reviewed 5 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We were a big group up in Bakewell for a wedding and it was perfect for us.

Maggie is very nice and quick to respond. The property itself is more than big enough for 12 people.

The area at the top of the property when the sun is out is brilliant.

The location is great for walks in the area too.

Loved it!

“Fantastic house and location!”

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pictures don't do the house justice. Lovely spacious accommodation for families or groups. Great attention to detail. Would definitely book again.
