Used the air conditioned restaurant for lunches it was a hot day. We had the mini fish and chips and that was ample. Everything was freshly cooked as there is a takeaway service below. They also make their own tartar sauce and it was delicious. Great value for money and good service.

Well, we visited this chip shop despite being advised against it by a local assistant in the co-op, because we needed a quick supper whilst we were on holiday in the Bakewell area. I have to say that they were probably the worst Fish & Chips I've ever had and I am staggered that anyone could rate this shop at 5 stars. Anyway, if like me you are a bit of a Fish & Chip connoisseur, then avoid this place at all costs. Don't be fooled by the photos and 'testimonials' from Rick Stein and Gordon Ramsay on the menu, as these refer to a 'sister' establishment on the West Coast and have nothing to do with the Bakewell shop - very misleading... This shop would more likely be a candidate for one of Ramsay's kitchen nightmares, and I am absolutely certain that Rick Stein would have choked on the soggy greasy batter and grey horrible fish that we were served with. They also fry in oil instead of traditional beef dripping and this does make a massive difference to the taste as well. I am therefore sticking with my assertion that you can only get decent fish & chips at the seaside.

Bakewell has many cafes and restaurants, but this provider is outstanding. Each time we visit this town, we make a beeline for it, as do many others. You do have to be seated by 11.50am or it becomes necessary to queue for seats inside the restaurant. As my grandmother would say - if there's a queue, something must be good. It sums this restaurant's food up entire. You do have to wait to be seated at the top of the staircase. Orders are taken swiftly as service is brisk and friendly. A good range of meals are listed on the menu, but it is difficult to resist the fish and chips. Three types of white fish are available, with scampi being included too. A good range of drinks are available. Food arrives swiftly; the batter on the fish is wafer thin and arrives with a huge portion of chips, with homemade tartar sauce alongside if required. High chairs are available for the younger customers. Treat sweets are available to them also.
The whole restaurant is freshly refurbished, to a high standard. The toilets are spotless, being fully refurbished too. Free wifi is available and the hygiene rating is clearly visible at ground level.
Yes, the restaurant is upstairs, but this does not reduce my rating to 4 as the same food can be accessed at ground floor level from the fish and chip shop below/next door to the restaurant's main doorway. Open 11.30am - 9pm each day, 11am Monday.
Well done and thank you to all for another delicious meal with you today.

We enjoyed a delicious fish and chip lunch in this busy, buzzy first floor restaurant. Excellent service from attentive and efficient waiters and tasty, hot and plentiful food. The only minor downside is that the tables for 4 are quite small but this is dictated by the long, narrow room and it certainly wouldn't put us off returning. Thank you for a memorable meal !
