On a nice morning during the school holidays,we like to take the kids for a walk along the canal. It's a very pleasant walk lots to see and signs along the way wildlife. Hedgerows countryside views. Pretty houses along the way benches to sit nice even path to push a pram .or for the elderly. One time we found a freshly laid ducks egg. Which was an exciting moment for the kids ,we took it home and tried to hatch it. There's even a picnick area . Chesterfield canal is a nice place to visit

Great for walks and bike rides as it’s so flat and it’s surprisingly pretty. In a few minutes walk from Tapton Lock, you could be in the middle of nowhere. There’s a very nice and reasonably priced cafe at Hollingwood which makes for a good walk from Tapton. Also, the site of my best ever Kingfisher sighting - a few hundred yards from Chesterfield station and the busy dual carriageway ! Definitely worth a few hours walk or bike ride.

A very pleasant walk plenty of wild life and drop off places and even a boat ride if you prefer. Cafes at a couple of places and even picnic spots. A quiet spot in the midst of activity.

Lovely walk and canal boat trips (best to book) welcoming pubs and cafes along the walk. Volunteers are working hard to restore one end of the canal
