“Ideal base for visiting Bath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2012

Traditional country house hotel, beside the A4 Chippenham/Bath road, but set well back from the road in its own very quiet grounds, with extensive parking faciliuties. The hotel is nicely furnished in keeping with the style of property, and decorated to a good standard. We stayed in room 4 a superior room in the main building, which was a good size room with large window overlooking the well maintained grounds. Furniture, furnishings and decoration to a good standard and again in keeping with style of the hotel. Tea, coffee, chocolate making facilities with biscuits and water available in the room. Bathroom was compact but well equipped with a good range of soap, shampoo, hand cream etc.
Afternoon tea was a very pleasant buffet of assorted freshly made sandwiches, sweet pastries, together with scones with cream and jam, and a constant supply of freshly made tea oe coffee. Dinner was served in the very nice dining room, staffed by a young team of well trained, enthusiastic and friendly waiters/waitresses. The standard of service, food, cooking, and presentation of meals was very good and very much at the top end of the bracket for this type of hotel. This experience was repeated at breakfast the following morning with a mix of buffet starters, and waiter service cooked breafast with an excellent range of dishes from the traditional english cooked breakfast through to, eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, all of the highest quality, well cooked, and nicely presented.
Altogether a very nice hotel, well managed, with pleasant friendly staff ideally situated for visiting bath and the surrounding area. Definitely one to return to.

Room Tip: The supplement for the superior room is w, orth paying as these are in the main buildingwhereas stan...

Guyers Hotel has a lot of potential. The gardens and the small cottages are beautiful. Breakfast had plenty to offer, the quality high and the service attentive. Unfortunately, the rooms are not up to this standard. We requested a twin room and we were given room 31 on the ground floor which is far too small for a double and single bed. On our arrival though we noted hair on the floor, sink and bath. We told reception about the problem and we were moved to two double bedrooms on the first floor which were fine (bathrooms seem all very tired and in need of refurbishing). On the 2nd night of our stay we were told that we could move back to room 31 (when we asked if they could offer a bigger room, the answer was that they were fully booked). We returned to the room and we found the same hair again on floor and bath. This was unacceptable to us. It appeared that they could be bothered to clean it at all, despite our remarks the previous day. The manager was kind enough to offer 2 glasses of champagne after trying himself to clean the bathroom. Nevertheless, the impression on the place is negative, and we will not go back unless they refurnish the bathrooms and improve the level of service. It has to be noted that in the morning the maids laid clean sheets and towels on the floors corridors before changing the rooms, which, in my opinion, is not hygienic. Something else for the management to keep in mind.

The setting of the hotel is wonderful lovely grounds and it does look like a perfect country house hotel.
The room was also lovely but could have been cleaner, there were cobwebs in our room and in our bathroom.
Bathroom very dated & the loo was not totally clean when we arrived !!
Having said all this we had a lovely weekend stay here and it was on a deal that was great value.
Food is all very good obviously home made using local produce when they can
staff friendly and helpful if not a little scatty at times.
Generally a good experience and i would go back.

We stayed here in early March 2012 on a Travelzoo deal including afternoon tea, dinner, B&B. We had originally booked for a stay in February 2012 but there was an issue with the booking on arrival. However, the quality of an establishment can be measured by how it deals with such problems and I cannot compliment highly enough the response from the hotel management.

Our second attempt at staying was fabulous. The hotel is charming and elegant and the grounds gorgeous, even in late winter/early spring. We had a lovely walk in the sunshine around the grounds before stopping for a drink in the bar.

We had upgraded to a superior room which was cosy, warm and full of original features. And very quiet. Even with an event going on elsewhere in the hotel, once in our room we heard nothing. The only negative for the trip would be the quality of the shower in the bathroom. It would benefit from having a thermostatic shower installed - there is a warning about the hot water, which is just as well as it was very hot. It took several minutes playing with cold & hot taps to find a suitable temperature for a shower. However, this is a very minor point.

The afternoon tea was delicious - just the right amount of food and very, very tasty, especially the lemon sponge.

Dinner was superb. Beautifully presented and with the fine dining and a la carte menus to choose from, plenty of choice. Cannot fault in any way. Service was attentive and friendly.

Breakfast - so nice to see such a variety of cooked breakfast options and not just a full english breakfast. The eggs benedict and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs were both delicious. Alos good to see a breakfast buffet that was kept well stocked so that nothing ever ran out.

All in all we had a lovely relaxing break with great food and drink. Highly recommended.

We stayed from Friday to Sunday and found the stay excellent in all respects. The manager - Mr Glasspool - clearly knows his buisness very well and delivered good quality and service in all departments. The room was well finished, clean and warm, the bed was comfortable and we slept well both nights. The dining room was a delight with a choice of "menu degustation" or "a la carte" with some interesting and creative dishes on both. There was also a good choice of reasonably priced wines. Likewise, breakfast was excellent with well presented and well cooked food, including the usual "full English", but also the less common, but much appreciated dishes such as smoked haddock fillet with poached eggs.
The staff were very friendly, helpful and engaging at all times.
Highly recommended.
