Authentic country inn on the edge of town. Town centre is short but steep walk away. Staff gave us a warm welcome and were friendly and helpful throughout our stay (Tom and Tilly in particular). Breakfast was excellent (with freshly squeezed orange juice). Evening meal was very good and reasonably priced. Very good selection of draught beer, wine and spirits. Free newspapers and magazines available in the bar areas. This is a genuine British pub/inn and not some city designer's vision of what they think a British pub/inn should be. Any lack of 'corporate polish' is more than made up for by the warm, authentic and friendly atmosphere and the excellent work of the staff.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front (not the roadside) of the building have the best views and are less likely to suf...

Once again a very warm welcome from the staff who go the extra mile. The venison loin on Sunday evening was excellent as was the ribeye steak. The bar is well stocked and Thomas suggested a very drinkable Malbec.

Room Tip: We have always chosen room 4 as the bathroom is has a walk in shower, a very large bath and 2 basin...

This pub is well located high up on the hill in BOA. Car parking not great but it does have a very nice beer garden and bar area. Unfortunately this visit was marred by some complete idiot talking complete rubbish on his hands free mobile in the centre of the bar. Wouldn't have minded but he just went on and on. Mobiles should be banned inside pubs.

Lovely accommodation and food. Very helpful and friendly staff. The room itself (room 1) was slightly dark due to colour of walls and the decor a little tired -could do with a re-paint. BUT the room was huge, the bathroom gorgeous and the furnishings were tasteful and quirky. The bed was very large and comfortable. There were lovely little touches which elevated the quality of the stay such as real tea and coffee in the rooms.
The venue itself was similarly tasteful (in a retro-cool way) and the fact that it is a pub doesnt appear to intrude on the sense of privacy when in the rooms.
One aspect to consider is that the Castle is at the top of a very steep and winding hill. Not an easy walk back from the centre of town!

Great place. Fab rooms, huge bathroom! Lovely food served in the restaurant. Well stocked bar. Slept really well on a comfortable bed and awoke to a well cooked breakfast. Second stay here. Be back next year (I hope).
