My Brother in-law celebrating his 60th and his friend. Invited my wife and myself celebrating our 45th anniversary, For Sunday lunch at Riverhall on the 16th September 2012. We arrived 15 minutes late. Which did not seem to have caused any problem. Even though the place was busy.
We were shown to the bar and asked if we would like a drink, as our table by the window (As requested ) was not quite ready for us.
We were given menus, so we could decide what we would have to eat while we were having a drink.
All four of us ordered a 3 course meal. The four starters, the soup, the gallia melon, the sardines and the swordfish were excellent.
Three of the four main courses, sea bass x 2, and the lamb were really very good. However, the turkey was not as moist as i was expecting. If fact i would say it was rather quite dry. Having said that, the roasties and the veg were very nice, as were the four desserts from the excellent trolly.
I must say after the meal, we took coffee in the bar area to discuss the meal. Three of four gave it 5/5. I gave it 4/5.
It did however do one thing. It made me appreciate my wifes culinary skills, as she does a mean turkey roast. I should hope so. She's been perfecting it for 45 years.
Would we go back again?. Possibly, in the week to try the other menus.

Had a meal as a birthday celebration for my wife. From the outset we were well looked after both in the bar and at the table. My wife had food from a fixed price menu whilst I had a selection from the a la carte. The wine list is well suited and priced reasonably. Without exception the food was of the highest standard. Portions were perfect in size and if I had to pick out one aspect of the meal I would say the carpaccio of beef I had as a starter was superb. Service was good, if a little fussy at times, and the restaurant was well staffed. At the end of our meal the chef, Claire Lara, made a point of coming out to speak to us. This is something she does to all customers and we found it very reassuring she was so ready to listen to comments about her food. Our comments were full of praise.
My only suggestion would be that the interval between courses was a little on the short side but this is a minor observastion after having such a wonderful meal.

i pass this place almost daily and yes i had spoken to people who told me that the food was good but there are plenty of places in the area that serve good food and i kept saying Yes i will have to give it a go. Eventually my wife and i did, the service was brilliant and polite, the people who work here seem to enjoy what they do and i could not fault anything about the place. The food was fantastic, i am not a pudding person but i did try the triffle which was simply fantastic and home made. I can honestly say i was sorry we hadnt been here before and it was my loss. The value for money knocks spotts off the restaurants in the nearby village. I am hopeing to go there next week for my wedding anniversary. Top food, lovely staff, not too expensive it ticks every box

Room Tip: give this place a go there wasnt anythink i didnt like about the place. Best in the area

We had a perfectly decent stay at this hotel. Everything was fine. Service was good. Room was nice and clean and suited our needs perfectly. Breakfast was excellent. The seating area outside was good, as we had a rare sunny day!
It just seemed spookily quiet. We really thought we were the only people in the place, until we saw a few others at breakfast.
Not top quality, but perfectly acceptable, and we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had Room 1. A bit hot on a hot summer's night, though a fan was thoughtfully provided to help...
