We are so happy that we found this lovely place. Excellent and genuine food and the host is so warm and welcoming. He seems very passionate about food and wine and the wine list is huge. Despite our very bad italian we managed to have nice conversations, we will definitely save this as a place to return to.

This was one of the stranger experiences of our vacation. I booked my parents a hotel room in Settimo Vittone, not realizing that the town of Settimo Vittone covers about 2000 feet of elevation and this hotel was at the top of that range.

After driving about 15 minutes through ever windier and ever smaller roads, we got to the hotel. We asked the staff whether they knew of any restaurants nearby and the recommended LaMarenda (which happens to be owned by the same people who own the hotel . . .).

About 600 meters from the hotel, we arrived. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere high up on a mountain and I assumed we'd be the only patrons. Instead, we found more than 50 people dining. How they found it I have no idea.

The menu is very simple - there are a few pastas, a few appetizers, and some dessert. No meat dishes or really any second courses. But everything was tasty.

The wine list is insane. It was like 500 bottles with very fine Italian reds as the specialty. We got an amazing 1999 Barbaresca for 60 euros.

All in all, a crazy cool experience - worth the drive as long as you don't get car sick easily!

Ended up here totally unexpected, because I was staying at the hotel "Il Falco e la Volpe" and I did not want to return all the way to the valley. But what a diner! What a food! Truely authentic Piemontese gastronomy, based on the honesty of the ingredients. And what a wine collection! And all for a very reasonable price. Unexpected encounters are still the best ;-)

The owners run a small (14 room) Boutique Hotel (Il Falco et la Volpe) a few hundred meters up the hill from the Bodega, but they carefully manage both. And impressive Wine-Cellar, a 20 year collection, well maintained. The very local cuisine is recommendable, but not for "big meat" eaters. Its local herbs, pasta, however, the veal carpacchio is good, a bit too much for an appetizer, but at €2,50 its good for two. Try the polenta (even though they would be smart to get the coarser mais version from Grison (CH), or ground it locally), all in all a truly exquisite experience. The place is very inexpensive, but they seem to reward clients for the long drive uphill, and the service is excellent. Once they earn some money, they could have their own dinnerware designed, and buy (please) some better cutlery, real chairs and glassware, but otherwise, even the views are spectacular, the distance from the valley refreshing.
I had a wonderful 1994 Barbera, it was their last bottle though at 80% discount. The do have draft beer, but not a (Danish) brand I would or could approve of, because that is a place for a Premium Brew from Germany (Bitburger?).
