A fantastic day out on the Mangaweka Express. This is a real step back into the days of steam with plenty of photo stops, terrific service from the volunteers on board. All in all a great experience. Certainly one to be repeated.

All the little "quirks" of the train add to the experience. What a way to travel, all pleasure and no hassle. Well worth it for young and old alike.

run mainly by volunteers over a variety of weekend and locations. it's very 1960's but that's part of the attraction. Don't expect anything flash (or speedy for that matter), but just sit back, relax and enjoy the experience.
Can give this enough stars.

I have travelled with Steam Inc. many times. This review is related to the 2016 Christmas Grand Circle train which ran on Sunday 4 December.
This 360km day long trip travelled from Paekakariki through Palmerston North, Manawatu Gorge, Woodville, Pahiatua, Opaki, Masterton, Featherston, Rimutaka Tunnel, Wellington and ending back at Paekakariki.
The train, hauled by a spotless heritage diesel locomotive and restored carriages was staff by well trained, happy, helpful volunteers.
The lunch held at a winery near Opaki was excellent.
It was a brilliant experience, well worth travelling from Australia to make the experience.

Have been a couple of times. First visited the little museum that focusses on the steam era of trains. There is even a model train that tracks around inside too.
Second time we visited was on a steam open day when they brought out one of the old refurbished steam trains. It was fantastic to be able to climb on it and feel like you were sitting in the drivers seat.
Go to this place on an open day and take the kids, they will love it.
The steam trains operate on limited days of the year too which is on our must do list.
