“Epic Vacation, Perfect Location!!”
Reviewed 13 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Wow, this Halcyon garden home was perfect in every way!! Super clean, great location, lovely decor & packed with extra amenities.

Location:
Absolutely perfect! Conveniently located close to the airport, Georgetown & the water taxi. Very close to Jolly Hall beach (one of the best). We loved this Central spot on the island perfect for traveling north one day & south the next to explore.

You have a perfect perch on a small hill for an astonishing ocean view from your patio and out the windows. So stunning!

The small beach at the bottom of the hill (easy walking distance with a somewhat steep hill) provided a stunning snorkeling spot. Look for the orange buoys. Those represent epic snorkeling.

You're very close to several restaurants including my favorite, Splash. The food there was really good (kinda reasonably priced considering) but it's the awesome vibe that makes this place so great. Swings at the bar, pool tables and a beach front location.

Halcyon amenities abound...

In the kitchen: A blender, can opener, dishes for indoor and outdoor dining, sharp knives, mixing bowls, even some Tupperware we used for transporting our picnic lunch (cooler provided!)

Extras: Two sets of beach towels, lots of bath towels and wash cloths. Two folding chairs for the beach and an umbrella for use. There is also a large straw bag for transporting your beach gear. Perfect!

Lots of candles (for the occasional and short lived power outage that is part of Exuma island life) & even some special bug repelling lanterns for enjoying time on the deck.

An outdoor shower and a clothesline too for hanging your towels to dry.

Use of a full size washer and dryer with detergent provided. Yes!

A little library of books to read, two decks of playing cards, and cable tv provide late night entertainment.

Island tips:
The bugs are only bad at sunrise and sunset so either avoid the outdoors at those times or use bug spray (there's even some provided!). Otherwise you'll be fine.

If it's too windy head on over to Stocking Island for gentler breezes.

Best beaches: Coco Plum, Tropic of Cancer, Jolly Hall and Powder Sand (Stocking Island).

Rosemary is a wonderful hostess but gave us total privacy until the last day when we knocked on her door to enjoy her wonderful company. So happy we did as she's a huge part of the charm at this ideal home away from home.

You'll be SO glad to book this home for your vacation. We found it to be absolutely perfect!!

Joshua and Kristen,
Thank you for coming to Exuma, for staying at my place, and thank you for your thorough, considerate review! I know others will be glad you took the time to write about your experience with Halcyon Garden Cottage - I certainly am. I'm so happy we got to know each other on the last night of your stay, and enjoyed playing the piggies game and Rummy Kub with you. I sincerely hope you'll be back soon so I can have a return match (and maybe next time conquer the Resplendent Rummy Kub King, Joshua the Great).

“Location is amazing, the cottage is amazing, hostess Rosemary is amazing and Exuma is amazing!”

The location is amazing and the cottage is perfect! Not only is the cottage location close to everything, but the view is breathtaking. The cottage is just the perfect size for two people and had lots of extras to make it feel like home away from home.

Hostess Rosemary is the friendliest and most elegant woman you'll ever meet, which puts this place over the top exceptional. We first met her for lunch and she showed us some spots afterward to go to. One of our favorite memories was talking with her on the porch about their culture and having a couple Pink Sands Radlers, which quickly became our favorite drink!

Once booked, Rosemary also provides a detailed list of every restaurant, activities and will answer anything you need to know. These lists made our trip extremely easy to plan out, book activities in advance and feel like one of the locals. There is also something to do every night, which makes the island life of Exuma so unique!

You can get to the beautiful white sand beach and clear blue water by simply walking down the hill from the cottage (very convenient). Thanks to Rosemary's knowledge of the land, we explored other beaches with a rental car. (Almost a different beach per day). Without a doubt, we HIGHLY recommend the cottage for your vacation to Exuma!

“Great little cottage close to downtown Georgetown”

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Halcyon Sky cottage. We're outdoor folks and really enjoy cooking, so the secluded nature of the cottage was exactly what we were looking for. We really enjoyed staying on this end of the island compared to a resort on Exuma, especially if you don't mind exploring a little to have some fun. You'll meet a lot of the locals and get a truer sense of what Exuma is like. We absolutely loved swapping stories and having a couple drinks with Rosemary while learning about the culture and history of the island.

We arrived on a Sunday around noon and upon arrival to the cottage we were greeted by Rosemary. She showed us around the cottage property which included her amazing flower garden. Halcyon sky shares a patio with her house, and a second "Garden" unit below but rarely do you feel you're interfering.

Rosemary offered to drive us around town to get the lay of the land and we happily obliged. This helped us get our bearings and figure out where everything was. You'll be about a ten minute walk into town, but the roads aren't the most pedestrian friendly. You’ll probably need to rent a vehicle to lug groceries back and forth. There is direct beach access across the garden, by the abandoned hotel, but the beach isn’t maintained and almost unusable so you'll need to find a beach to travel to. The closest is jolly hall.

Wi-Fi in the cottage is alright, we brought our Chromecast to stream. The cottage has a full kitchen, coffee maker, spices and oils for cooking, knives, zero water filter, washer & dryer, patio furniture, king size bed and great air conditioning! We had intermittent power outages and water was shut off when we first arrived (which affects the whole island), but that wasn’t a huge show stopper for us.

On our second to last day Rosemary showed us some absolutely stunning beaches on the south of the Island (Rolletown, Hartswell). Her generosity was unmatched during our entire stay in Exuma.

Pro tips:

Bug spray, lots of it.
Bring dehydrated food packs for camping (MRE) for meals, and snacks. Easy to travel with and lightweight (all food is roughly 2.5x what you'd pay back home)
Rent a vehicle for the first few days, just to help you determine if you think you'll need it the rest of the week.
Rent a boat through Minn's Watersports.
Rent Kayaks or Fishing Tours through Out Island Explorers (Tamara and Dallas were great)
Find Forbes and Tropic of Cancer beaches early. We would have spent a lot more time there had we known about those beaches earlier on.

Thanks! We'll be back to visit soon!

“Our time on Exuma was too short!”
Reviewed 11 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 day stay on Exuma. We loved the laid back vibe of the island. We felt like we were one of the locals. Rosemary was not only a great host, but we feel as if we have become friends. Her expertise of the island is great and the sky cottage was extremely pleasant. The view and the king bed were equally fantastic! The cottage is just the perfect size for 2 people, and had lots of extras to make it feel like home away from home. Exuma has beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise water that is different from any we have experienced in other parts of the Caribbean. The island was easy to explore with a rental car. We are already dreaming of a return trip. . .

“Relaxation at it's best!!”
Reviewed 24 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We throughly enjoyed our time and Exuma!! Rosemary's hospitality was icing on the cake to an already beautiful time. She gave us a great tour of her city and recommended the best places. As for excursions, I highly recommend renting a boat from Minns Watersports, this is by far the BEST way to experience the island!
