“Not for everyone!”
Reviewed 31 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

I'll start with the good bits. Fab breakfast and great hospitality. Carol was really friendly. The accommodation itself, were you to clear away all of the paraphernalia which overwhelmed the whole house, was due some renovation and a good clean. It was Halloween which befitted the general theme of the house - macabre. Say combine Carry on Screaming with Hammer House of Horror without the presence of Peter Cushing. There are actually some very lovely pieces in the house including a beautiful purple carpet however.....So chocca with gaudiness, needed a good scrub (more importantly) and in need of repair (hole in wall with covered wiring on view), plaster falling off ceilings which themselves had cracks. Absolutely not worth the £115/120 per night my sister and I paid. A great shame. I'm very much a fan of the eclectic but this was a bit too much for me.

Who is "everyone"? This sort of review makes us want to stop inviting complete strangers into our house. The guests actually said how lovely the bedrooms are and took photos of the beautiful Princess Royal Room when they arrived and couldn't wait to show their sister who they were visiting the interior, they said "you must see it, it's so eclectic and different". I spent a lot of time in conversation with them and giving them a tour which I now regret as all we have in return is a 2 star rating and rude comments.
We allowed them a very late check out in the afternoon with no extra cost and one of the bathrooms was flooded. The comments really upset us. Particularly as we treated them as friends, made them all very welcome and put on a fantastic breakfast for them.
The house is "scrubed", vacuumed, dusted and tidied every day. What else can we do? It is an historic house, not a Hotel, a work of art by artists.
