Description: Monsoons restaurant stand on an empty pristine beach with views out to sea or back towards the beauty of the Jumba ruins and botanical park themselves. The restaurant offers a delightful range of fresh seafood as well as Italian pasta dishes. It is a place where you want to spend the day with friends, drinking in the views with a glass of wine and a dressed crab or two. An incredible haven only seconds from the chaos of the beaches closer to Mombasa,a wonderful place for families, couples and special occasions Monsoons is to be savored, not rushed.

We were recommended Monsoon by friends and I'm very grateful. If you're passing through Mtwapa stop off for lunch or dinner. It's signed up on the main road or search for Jumba Ruins. You walk through the ruins which is interesting to a delightful low key authentic friendly Italian restaurant right on the beach. Food is wonderful, staff wonderful, location wonderful. We'll return whenever possible. Try it out.

This place is a hidden jewel, set right on the Indian Ocean, having walked through the Jumba ruins site. Excellent freshly caught sea food, the most amazing crab and lobster, beautifully prepared and presented. The hosts and staff very attentive. Every time we visit Mombasa we always come for lunch here.

The food was nice but not memorable. The staff were excellent and jumped to your every need. The big pull for this visit is the Jamba ruins...spooky and amazing. The beach is beautiful and empty but the garbage on the beach is a disappointment.

We took an Uber from our hotel in Shanzu into the heart of Mtwapa. As we coursed through the semi rural neighbourhood we wondered where the roads would lead to. We found Monsoon Restaurant on TripAdvisor and thought we should try it out after some seriously underwhelming hotel buffet. So when we got to the Jumba Ruins we as asked cautiously at the entrance whether we were really at our destination. The Jumba ruins were a sight to behold. 600 year old baobab trees lined the walkway and ruins of a Swahili settlement beckoned beyond the lush greenery as if untouched for centuries. I could see the sea out ahead of us, waves from miles away crashing on the white sandy beach as they did when inhabitants of the settlement first chose that spot. The exact spot where Monsoon was cosily nestled. Monsoon is a beautiful little restaurant nothing pretentious or over the top from the decor to the staff. Authentic makuti thatched roofs, sunbeds under palm trees. So idyllic, it was like time had stood still for us to savour the moment. Our waitress was impeccable as she took us through the menu. Seafood platter for 3 for the main and calamari & prawns for starters. The calamari was mildly spiced with lemon and pepper and so tender and soft it was like eating clouds right out of the sky; very unlike the fibrous heavily coated rings we find in Nairobi. The prawns were equally delectable seasoned in lemon and pepper as well. Appetites were sufficiently roused. The main course came on a platter crab, lobster, white snapper, octopus, prawns and calamari and some some tasty fragnant rice. Coconut and garlic butter sauces framed the meal so well I rediscovered the meaning of finger licking good. And to crown it all we had the cool breeze from the sea, breathtaking views and the ruin behind us providing the perfect ambience for the afternoon meal. This was my best lunch experience so far. Id recommend any day.
