Went here on several evenings during a holiday to Shoal Bay. Great hotel recently renovated. The upstairs restaurant and deck area is beautiful and a great place to enjoy a drink as the sun is setting. Spectacular views. The courtyard downstairs was also good for listening to live music however following the renovation they made this whole area (it is quite large) a smoking area which means you often had patrons blowing smoke T you and your kids. Cigarette smoke is all you can smell in this area and I don’t understand why management decided to make such a large central space a smoking area. Big disappointment. Had several meals from the restaurant and unfortunately wasn’t impressed by any of them. Probably the worst was the garlic pizza bread which had the most ridiculous amount of garlic and salt on it- we couldn’t eat it. Antipasto plate was disappointing. Oysters were too small. Try the passion fruit mojito it is delicious. Would go there again for the location but wouldn’t eat there. And management need to do something about that smoking area.

I never like writing a negative or bad review but sometimes it needs to be done to help both parties!
I’ve been visiting Shoal Bay for the best part of 30 years and have seen this establishment transform into “ The place to be” in Shoal bay for entertainment, eating and to have a drink.
The only negative thing that needs to be brought to attention is the service. Food is good when you finally receive it!
Mermaids is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to wait a while as due to poor management and lack of staff commitment.

View with the live band playing in the back ground was awesome, but that’s where the good started and finish’s

I was left with a sour taste in my mouth when I was charged a surcharge on Saturday, it may be Easter Saturday, but from my understanding it stop being considered a public along time a go

The Steak although cooked very well, was very grisly hard to get through,

The Red Wine Jus was just gravy nothing even close to Red Wine Jus, the coleslaw was dry and no dressing on it,

This has the potential to be a great place to visit but has to lift its game on some of the smaller things.

Really good price point for the quality of food that was delivered. 4 of us ate here...and none of us were disappointed. The chips were fantastic and that wagyu beef burger! Pizzas could easily be shared if you aren't too hungry. Only 2 down falls that stop the 5 rating...Atlantic salmon...largest portion i have ever had...however what accompanied whoever prepared was a bit to generous with the oil bit still really good and unfortunately the vodka lemon lime bitters wasn't well prepared. However stunning views overall great food would recommend and be back. Thanks!

We recently enjoyed two lovely lunches at The Country Club Hotel, Shoal Bay overlooking the beautiful waters of Port Stephens and Tomaree and Yacaaba Headlands which guard the entrance to the Port. The hotel has recently had a major overhaul and is now a fantastic venue offering delicious meals ranging from pizzas to locally caught seafood. The pizzas are cooked in a traditional oven and the aromas fill the room making you salivate with anticipation. There is a very good wine list and a selection of beers on tap. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and our meals on both occasions were served promptly. Highly recommended.
