We visited La Grotte de Demoiselles in the off-season, during the week (October) so we were not plagued by the crowds that other TA contributors have highlighted. It is really worth the visit and our guide was very knowledgeable - the only negative was his sometimes overbearing and finger pointing 'philosophical' comments that might leave some uneasy. And yes, the visit is in French, but our guide did a summary in English after each commentary in French. Really worth the visit - especially on a rainy day when outdoor hiking activities would be less comfortable!

OMG What a place. It seems docile from the outside but once you are in it is spectacular. So scary. Small stairways with a 100 foot drop a small handrail away. Once you are in there is no turning back. Oh, apart from the short-cut nobody told us about until we were half a mile up and a friend suffering with a panic attack. She was a total wimp however. Wonderful views and great value for money

Located north of Montpelier and west of Avignon, this cave is not conveniently located, but the drive is pleasant and the cave is a marvel not to be missed. It is majestic. It is magical and breathtaking. One enters the cave on a funicular. It is the longest one in Europe we heard. We thought that was it. We were wrong. The cave is a number of huge caves many that are very deep. There is still a local tour guide which made all the difference. He pointed out all the different formations and had anecdotes to share with us. The tour was a small group of ten. One must be mobile as there are many stairs up and down. It is cool and dark in the caves. I almost do not want to post about it as I would rather continue to keep it a secret. It is beautiful.

Well worth the drive from Montpellier. You can't ever capture the size of the caves in photos, you need to go
