My partner and our 6 year old daughter had a fantastic morning with Brendan on his new boat.
The weather was fantastic with virtually no wind and no swell. It took about 15 minutes to get to Essex Island off Jurien Bay. Immediately upon arrival several sea lions came out to greet us. At least a dozen more sea lions lazed on the beach 20 meters away enjoying the warm sun.
We threw on our mask and snorkel and jumped in - the water isn’t at all deep and crystal clear. At first the interaction with the seals was infrequent, however that changed quickly and we found ourselves playing with several seals at once. They are incredibly friendly and they come so close to you, you can literally touch them (however you don’t for their own wellbeing).
One particular sea lion was so friendly she stayed with us for a long time. Alternating from laying on the sandy bottom blowing bubbles at you to racing around you spinning and jumping. Such a peaceful experience but at the same time quite tiring as you try to keep up with their underwater acrobatics.
We can highly recommend this trip. It’s suited to young and old alike and the shallow water lets you stand and take a rest whilst you watch your new friends speed around you before it’ time to dive back under to try and keep up.
Brendan is a great host, friendly and outgoing. The cry of “come on puppies” as we arrived at the island will live on........
