My partner and our 6 year old daughter had a fantastic morning with Brendan on his new boat.

The weather was fantastic with virtually no wind and no swell. It took about 15 minutes to get to Essex Island off Jurien Bay. Immediately upon arrival several sea lions came out to greet us. At least a dozen more sea lions lazed on the beach 20 meters away enjoying the warm sun.

We threw on our mask and snorkel and jumped in - the water isn’t at all deep and crystal clear. At first the interaction with the seals was infrequent, however that changed quickly and we found ourselves playing with several seals at once. They are incredibly friendly and they come so close to you, you can literally touch them (however you don’t for their own wellbeing).

One particular sea lion was so friendly she stayed with us for a long time. Alternating from laying on the sandy bottom blowing bubbles at you to racing around you spinning and jumping. Such a peaceful experience but at the same time quite tiring as you try to keep up with their underwater acrobatics.

We can highly recommend this trip. It’s suited to young and old alike and the shallow water lets you stand and take a rest whilst you watch your new friends speed around you before it’ time to dive back under to try and keep up.

Brendan is a great host, friendly and outgoing. The cry of “come on puppies” as we arrived at the island will live on........

Brendan and Kendal took us out on the water this morning and we could not have had a better experience.

We got over an hour of interactions with the Sea Lions who were in particularly playful mood. Brendan even very kindly babysat our 18 month on the boat so we could go in the water together and didn't have to rotate.

The Sea Lions immediately approached the boat and started playing with us as soon as we got into the water. We were constantly surrounded by them for around 75 minutes, playing, chasing each other, nibbling on our fins and coming right up to have a good look at us. The more you play with them (diving down, rolling in the water etc) then the more engaged they are and the more they play with you in return.

I can't say enough good things about the Sea Lion experience, and Brendan and Kendal were an absolute delight to spend time with, they really brilliant. The water is relatively shallow too as there is a sand bar you can stand on so it is suitable for people who aren't strong swimmers if that's a concern for anyone.

After the Sea Lions we popped over to another island to have a look at the stunning beach/view, and as we pulled the boat in, we had an added bonus of two dolphins in the bay. Brendan and Kendal just threw everybody their snorkels and told us to go and see if we could have a swim with them too - which we managed to do briefly.

Very relaxed trip and we loved absolutely every minute. 100% recommend, it's just a phenomenal experience. It's not a spot that is flooded with tourists either - there was one othe rboat there when we arrived but they weren't in the water - there were 5 of us on the boat and we were the only 5 people in the water for the entire 75 mins, no other boats came and joined. Really unique and personal experience.

Side note - I'm very conscious of ethical tourism and can 100% assure people this is absolutely ethical - the animals are wild, they are not encouraged to interact in any way, they choose to do so, and disappear when they have had enough. There are no concerns whatsoever with this - it's something I'm very passionate about - if anybody is concerned about this, don't be.

My partner and I were looking forward a sea lion adventure morning. The conditions at the Jurien Bay Jetty seemed fine but once arrived at the island, the ocean was really rough (we did get too see a few sea lions swimming around). Brendan gave us a number of considerate options. We ended up getting a full refund and are appreciative of Brendan’s generosity. We look forward to returning for a future adventure with sea lion charters on a day that the weather is better. Thanks Brendan!

A nice 20 minute boat ride to a turquoise shored island to snorkel and swim with some very tame and inquisitive sea lions. Brendan the skipper is a nice guy, both friendly and knowledgeable. The whole thing took about 2 1/2 hours but was done at our pace, no rush. There is a toilet on board and all wetsuits and snorkel gear are provided. It's a bit pricier than the other options but reliablility counts for a lot (one of the others cancelled on us at the last minute)

This is truly an amazing experience! The Sea-lions are the most playful and curious animals I have ever encountered in the wild. The boat is perfect for the trip and allows for a modest size group that doesn't overwhelm. Brendan and the crew are knowledgeable, friendly and informative. The snacks and hot drinks are very welcome and the equipment provided is top notch. I'll definitely be back for more sea-lion action in the future. Thanks again. Coll and Emily from Cornwall, UK
