For the 2nd time in 3 years we enjoyed a wonderful visit to Albergue El Socorro. This working farm gives visitors a true glimpse into the heart of Costa Rica and its people. Get away from the crowds and experience the beauty of the scenic and unspoiled Central Highlands. The bird watching alone is worth a visit -- toucans, tanagers, warblers, parrots, kites and hawks -- but what makes it so special are the hosts, Jose Miranda and his family.
They will guide you to hidden waterfalls and swimming holes, show you how to milk a cow or join in a game of soccer with your kids. Our kids fell in love with the horses and woke early in the morning to help with chores.
The home cooked fare is tasty, you can bring your own beer or wine and cabins are comfortable. Some might grumble about wi-fi access or water pressure in the shower but if you want that stuff stay at a tourist hotel.
And hats off to Costa Rican road crews for repairing bridges and improving road access. 4-wheel drive helps but is not necessary
Love this place and would invite any adventure travelers to check it out.More
