“Swimming Pool and Sauna Complex”

Ahr-Thermen Bad Neuenahr
Reviewed 11 July 2017

The complex consists of two elements the Bad - family style swimming pool and the SaunaLand. As with all saunas in Germany and Austria the sauna is mixed and textile free (i.e. naked) so non-Europeans reading this be aware !
It is certainly not the most modern Thermen but is clean and has a good selection of facilities - saunas varying between 80 degrees and 100 degrees and Steam Room. These are located both inside and outside in a very pleasant garden with sun bathing if the weather permits. A cafe is also available.

We spent around three hours here on a beautifully sunny day. It was around 16 euros each, which we thought was decent value. We enjoyed the pools but avoided the sauna- too many naked old men! ;) The staff don't speak very good English and all of the signs are in German- but we seemed to manage to get by!

Exquisite Thermal Bath -- many different specialized baths - steam, sauna, the works. Be prepared to remove ALL YOUR CLOTHES. That is the German style.

A nice and cosy spa, with resonable prices, good food and the outdoor pool is the perfect place to relax.
Would recommend it both for families with children and young couples.

The town on Bad Neuenahr is reachable by train from Bonn; one direct train an hour, journey of 30 minutes. For a senior the round trip was 10 euros!
This spa has a large outdoor pool with three different systems of jets which alternate from one pool to another at regular intervals. It is like a water park for grownups! All water is heated thermally. You can swim from the outdoor pool directly into the indoor pools, of which there are three large ones of different temperatures (one is quite cool). In addition, there are four wonderful round jacuzzi pools.
You can book a massage while here, or just enjoy a lounge chair inside or out on the expansive lawn. There is a restaurant inside with very reasonable prices (true for all of Bonn as well).
We did not go to the downstairs area which has numerous saunas, since we had warning that it was all coed and nude. To each his/her own.
We spent a happy 6 hours here for which we only paid the day rate of 16 euros. This is a real bargain!
A note on Bonn and eating in general: you can usually get an entree for about 10 euros and the city is extremely vegetarian friendly!
