Arrived in Wernigerode by motorbike and searched for a central hotel with safe, off-road parking. We found the Johannishof which had it's own secluded private parking area, and after a very warm welcome from the man at reception, he gave us a room where we could park the bike right outside our window. He also gave us a booklet of Wernigerode's attractions with money off vouchers, which would have been very useful if we'd been staying for a few days.
Our en-suite room was immaculately clean, spacious and comfortable and the hotel is just round the corner from Wernigerode town centre and the Marketplace. The position was perfect, nice and quiet, but just a four minute stroll from the town.
Wernigerode is an atmospheric place with a 'witch' theme to it and has lots of narrow streets and lanes with half-timbered buildings giving a mediaeval impression. There's a great selection of bars, cafe's and restaurants to suit everyone and even a steam railway!
The hotel breakfast next morning was an excellent quality buffet, and there was plenty to choose from. (Being vegetarian, sometimes this isn't the case!)
All in all, we'll be back to Wernigerode for a longer stay, and we'll book the Johannishof!
