“Run Down”
Reviewed 12 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

We have stayed here 5 times in 8 years and the property is going downhill fast. American money has moved in and is killing a great villa. Smoke alarms tweet from need for new batteries. There is not a sharp knife in the kitchen. Glassware and cutlery is filthy. Automatic gate for driveway works intermittently. Employees are overworked. It's a real shame. What once was our home away from home has been degraded to a profit oriented enterprise at the expense of quality. Stray cats and flys keep you on your toes instead of relaxing. Our hearts are broken as this jewel of a property has been turned into a dirty place to stay. We must be out by 9:30 in the morning as a new group is scheduled in for lunch. Many in our group had no hot water for bathing or showers.
Good bye and farewell La Tartaruga. You were once the best and are now but a shell of your former self.

Management Response
15 Nov 2016
We sincerely regret that this reviewer, and longtime friend, did not have a good experience in his last visit to Villa La Tartaruga Sabina. We take great pride in our villa and the overall guest experience as has been demonstrated by all the many positive reviews. It is for this reason we feel a thorough response is necessary to help understand Curt Campbell’s unusual, and completely unexpected review.

As Mr. Campbell mentioned, there has been significant “money” invested in the villa for a major renovation completed in April of 2015. The renovation allowed us to include a vacation cooking school and many additional services not previously available to make our home a full service villa, capable of catering to the most discriminating clients from around the world. The villa has in fact stayed under the same ownership of the family who built it. Our renovations included:

- large state of the art kitchen
- en-suite bathrooms for each of the bedrooms
- new furnishing in the common areas and bedrooms
- air conditioning and heating in all bedrooms
- full catering and optional customized activities

Mr. Campbell failed to mention that he and his wife were provided a free week's vacation at the villa last year, including food, wine, tours, cooking lessons, etc., all at absolutely no cost. He is now competing with us in the olive oil business in the U.S.

When Mr. Campbell arrived, he was advised that because of the unusually warm weather for November a few flies had unexpectedly came out. He was told that the villa had been treated to eliminate flies inside, and therefore, it was best to keep the windows closed, something he chose not to do. Likewise, we advised him that we had two outdoor cats and to please avoid feeding the cats to ensure he stayed away. We also told him that we would lock the cats away if any of his guests were allergic to cats. These were not "stray" cats and was not a surprise to Mr Campbell and he did not ask us to lock the cats.

We had one fire alarm that needed a new battery, which has been replaced. We added a knife sharpener for the guests to use for the kitchen knives and all hard water spots had been cleaned from our glassware as usual. A new state of the art extra large hot water heater was installed in July, 2016. Had Mr Campbell told us that one bathroom had low hot water pressure, it would have been easily and promptly fine-tune it. The automated gate did not have a problem. Our standard check out time has always beetween 9am and 10am or later than that when we don’t have other guests checking in the same day.

We do apologize we did not meet his expectations and wish Mr Campbell well on his future travels.

We stayed here for a week and got married in the castle in palombara sabina. It was quite simply the greatest week of my life. The villa itself is beautiful. The owner Guiseppe was a gracious host and could not do enough for us while we were there. Our wedding day went without a single problem, due to Guiseppe's organisation and Carla's beautiful food at the evening meal. The grounds of the villa are lovely and having such a large pool to ourselves was superb. Our friends and family enjoyed a week of luxury here. It is just a beautiful slice of Italy and we will always have beautiful happy memories of this wonderful place

“La Cucina Sabina”
Reviewed 4 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Villa La Tartaruga Sabina was the ideal elegant country setting for a high end, hands on September cooking class in Italy. The kitchen was large, filled with light and modern. During our stay we had 5 cooking classes with great chefs and Nanci on site. We prepared the food step by step and then enjoyed our meals served in a beautiful dining room or on one of the patios. Each meal was accompanied by excellent and carefully chosen wine.

Each day we had a unique excursion away from the villa-not your run of the mill tour by any means. My favorite was the especially prepared dinner served from a roof top apartment that overlooked St. Peter’s Basilica. We watched the sun set over the city of Rome while experiencing an exceptional dinner.

The villa sits outside Rome in the country side in the midst of lemon and olive trees. The panoramic views were postcard perfect. One olive tree on the property is over 1000 years old. We had an Olympic size swimming pool on the property and enjoyed many relaxing moments at the pool. We had a full schedule, flexible and relaxing. We drove our schedule rather than being driven by an arbitrary timetable. We had singers and musicians come to the villa to provide music on 2 evenings.

Our bedrooms were modern and each had a private bathroom. My room also had a balcony with a stunning view of the countryside where I could enjoy the sun sets and relax. The air was crisp and refreshing each morning.

This culinary vacation package was first class and five star

“A fairy tale!”

My family and I just got back from staying here for about a week. What a treat!!! The villa and surrounding areas truly make you feel like you are in a fairy tale. I went on a few morning walks around the lush garden, soaked up the sun by the pool and enjoyed Carla's delicious cooking each night. Not to mention the inside of the villa is absolutely stunning- high ceilings, large bedrooms with a view and spacious and comfortable sitting areas. The staff were more than accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here!
