Chapelwick

We (two adults and two teenagers) spent a most relaxing two days at Chapelwick just prior to Christmas and would highly recommend it for a family break. The kids had a great time in the Billiard Room and had the added bonus of tennis and feeding the lambs. A fire in the evening added to the atmosphere (something of a bonus in late December) and a wander through the orchard with its wonderful old plum trees in full fruit is not to be missed

It really is a bit expensive for a family holiday but we coughed up for the night and it was wonderful. Took 2 boys who used all the grounds to play cricket. There was a Swimming pool, tennis court, huge grounds to explore, views of the sea. peace and quiet. I couldn't believe how well I slept.
The old homestead is beautiful inside and out. Very quaint and charming. It's perfect for families or couples I would say.
(small criticisms) Sometimes it was hard to find the owner if I wanted to ask questions. I would of liked a book about the house to know what to explore or look at round the property so I didn't have to ask.
Breakfast is continental. it was very good. Homely and plenty. I know this is a new trend but really I prefer a cooked full breakfast incuded with a bed and breakfast.
Would love to go back. The place is peaceful and relaxing.

Room Tip: Mine had a balcony. Was lovely.

We stayed at Chapelwick as an overnight stop on a road trip, which really didn't do it justice. Both of us longed to linger longer to wander in it's beautiful gardens, walk down to the beach or check out the chapel. Even another sleep or two in the gorgeously comfortable beds wouldn't have gone amiss!

Truly impressive, if you're the sort to like lovely old homesteads in rural surroundings (which we are), and our hosts were friendly and helpful, offering to share their family room with us, or set us up privately in another fire~lit room. We opted for their company!

Perfectly suited to anyone travelling with food that needs refrigeration too (often an issue when self~catering most of the holiday) as they happily accommodated our needs.

AND...... clotted cream with fresh scones for breakfast was an absolute treat!

This is a perfect retreat for a romantic break too, and/or a group holiday with your best friends. All up... a magical spot, far away from the madding crowds.

Room Tip: Just tell them who you are, they'll do the rest. This is a B&B so all the rooms are suited...

After winning a radio promotion for the worst wedding ever, this surely made up for that. Well worth the drive to enjoy peace and quiet, and just relax. Hosts made it really a relaxed place, lovely walks amongst the fruit trees, chat with the goat, so loved the dog, and the food was yummy, right down to hot scones included with the breakfast. I felt like I had "Big Wednesday", but the dream was just that when it came time to leave. Would certainly recommend Chapelwick for people who want to leave their cares and worries at home. Make a date with Chapelwick and see for your self. Pack your swimmers as the pool is very inviting... Cheers Rod and Raewyn

Raewyn and Rod were the perfect hosts for our weekend away from it all at this charming old and immaculately maintained, homestead. The warm, friendly atmosphere allowed us to quickly get to know and very comfortably share Chapelwick with our hosts and three other couples over welcoming breakfasts and as we enjoyed a beautiful dinner with a few wines and great conversation on Saturday night.
The nearby village of Porangahau was equally charming with great value meals and friendly company at the local hotel and at a fair that was being held at the marae. A visit to the wild coast is a must and there is a very tidy nine hole golf course on the way to the beach.
A perfect spot for a relaxing weekend away.
