From the moment we walked off the bus, 50 min. from Geneva in rain, we glanced across the street and found Le Compte Rouge and smiled with amazement at the convenience especially in light of the bad weather in which we found ourselves deposited The hotel was covered in construction netting and the first minor thought was that perhaps there would be noise and we would be unable to sleep off jet lag. WRONG! It was AMAZING from the minute we walked in! The lobby was beautiful, clean, modern, spacious with an additional dining area where you have the option to take breakfast and by special request for dinner. The room was spacious enough with lots of useful furniture. The bathroom well equipped and functional. The lighting was soft and inviting. The owners Natalie and Serge were just perfect hosts - very very helpful going out of their way to make us feel comfortable not only in their hotel, but also in the town, providing us with on spot information for our daily 12 mile walks, places to visit, and improving our ability to communicate in french when we asked for help. As for the concern of no rest due to the construction netting....it is only set up for exterior painting, there is no noise, the bed mattresses are all new and feel amazing for the best rest following long travel.
I cannot say enough for this great landing place picked out of the blue as a respite in travel to/from Geneva in preparation for our future European destinations. The bus for 8 euros/each could not have been easier to navigate. Truly the best decision as a start for our holiday!

On a recent trip to Geneva I had a chance to stay over in Thonon at the Le Comte Rouge for a weekend. What a change from my stay there last year. The fassade is the same but once I stepped into the lobby I hardly recognized where was. The lobby has been renovated into a very modern spacious area with nice seating areas and a bar. Loved the bar, the new owners took a mixology class and now offer some delicious cocktails, and of course, wine, beer and coffee. Always a plus, a hotel with a nice bar.
The owners were kind enough to show me some of the newly renovated rooms. The rooms all have been painted, have new beds and most of them have new flooring and lighting .Rooms and bathrooms are small but now have a fresh, modern feel and look.
Nice artwork has been added to the hallways and rooms, make sure to check out the ceiling in the lobby, It has been transformed into a piece of art. All together this a neat, clean 2* hotel in a great location with easy access to public transportation, shopping and to the lake for a reasonable price. The new owners Nathalie and Serge deserve a special mention, friendly, helpful and above and beyond service oriented.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room

We recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a trip to Switzerland and France.
From the minute we arrived the new owners of this hotel exuded friendliness and
helpfulness. From helping us with our suitcases, giving us information on where to parking, going as far as showing as the parking garage and recommending restaurants and things to see in the area we couldn't have asked for more. Before we arrived they informed us that there was a festival in town and be aware of streets being closed.
The rooms and bathrooms were small but very clean, breakfast had a nice selection and the price to value for it was fair. You can't beat the location, it's within walking distance of attractions, shops, restaurants and only a block from the train station and a 10 minute walk to the lake..
The hotel is also easily accessible from the ferry dock from and to Lausanne and a short walk to the spa. I would highly recommend this hotel for hikers and bikers since the cost is much less then on the Swiss side of the lake
The only drawback is if you have a room facing the street and would like to keep the window open it's a bit noisy. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the front. Maybe in the future the new owners would even consider installing A/C in those rooms. I am sure that we will be in this area of France again in the future and we surly will stay here again.

Room Tip: great location for hikers that are doing the GR5, bike storage
