“Brilliant!”
Reviewed 9 April 2015 for a stay in December 2014

Stayed in Lower Chalet end Dec/beginning Jan, for 1 week. 2 families of 4. Absolutely perfect. 5 mins to town or the lift (free parking), or take the free ski shuttle bus which stops right outside the chalet. Chalet is easy to find; plenty of parking on the driveway. Chalet is warm, comfortable and well equipped. Steve & Eleanor could not be more helpful or accommodating - they live on site and are there if/when you need them but do not interfere in any way. Their local knowledge and advice is invaluable: from restaurants to ski hire to pistes..... everything. Their 'taxi service' is a generous offering (for a small fee) and 8 passengers can travel together in their vehicle. This enabled us to spend 2 full evenings in town without needing to journey in our own 2 vehicles. Ideal! Wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation.

“A Great Find”

As others have said or intimated, if you are looking for high end luxury, this chalet is not for you, but if, like us, you want clean, warm, shabby chic accommodation with very helpful owners and, if like us, your idea of après ski is playing board games and sleeping, this is a real find. We booked all three flats for 14 adults plus a one year old and had loads of space (singletons and the baby had their own rooms and nobody had to sleep in a top bunk) at a very reasonable price per person. The doors to the top flats are side by side (it hardly counts as going outside), the lower flat has a separate entrance.
The chalet is about 2 miles from Samoens but more conveniently situated for skiing than you might at first think. The stop for the free bus to the Grand Massif lift is right outside the chalet and we rented our skis from Extreme Glisse, which is next to the lift and were able to leave ski boots and skis there overnight (at no extra cost), so we walked less distance in ski boots, carrying skis, than we have done previously from accommodation advertised as “next to the slopes”. However, if you don’t ski all day, you might want to check out the bus timetable as the buses have a lengthy siesta in the afternoon.
As all reviewers have commented the hosts, Steve and Eleanor, are extremely thoughtful and helpful but not intrusive.
Thanks to Eleanor giving us a lift to the supermarket at the beginning of the week to do a mega shop and the chalet being well equipped with large dishes and saucepans self catering was not a problem . However, we did have one night off and used Mountain Kitchen, who we would also recommend.
Pack a sharp knife and a hairdryer and have a great time!

“Excellent value and excellent hosts”
Reviewed 23 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We were a group of seven, four adults and three teenagers. We stayed in the lower chalet and there was more than enough room for us. The chalet is not high end luxury but it is homely and had everything you need for you stay whilst skiing. Steve and Eleanor, the hosts, are very friendly and very helpful. Although it is located out of the main village of Samoens there is a bus stop right outside and in the evenings, if you require a lift in to town, either Steve or Eleanor will drive you there and back. The journey takes five minutes. This is our sixth year at Samoens and we have previously stayed in the higher end luxury chalets but this year decided to budget a bit. I would thoroughly recommend Chalet Sougey for those who wish to enjoy the Grand Massif in a homely, clean and well hosted chalet.

“The Perfect Ski Retreat”
Reviewed 19 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Steve and Eleanor provided myself and my 4 cohorts with the most relaxing and fantastic long weekend if skiing. The apartment we took was lavishly spacious and comfortable. Our hosts continually went out of their way to be helpful and generous with their advice and offers of lifts in and out of town making it no issue whatsoever that the chalet was a little out of Samoens. Really couldn't recommend Chalet Sougey and the Samoens resort enough.

“No frills but first class, attentive service”
Reviewed 26 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We have just returned from an enjoyablel week staying in the lower chalet of Chalet Sougey. The best thing about it was Eleanor and Steve. Kind, attentive hosts who couldn't do enough to help us make the most of our stay. All rooms were pretty basically furnished. Kitchen could do with some some larger sized glasses. English TV was appreciated. Eating and drinking together in the kitchen was convivial. Bathrooms worked but again simply done. The chalet was always warm and cosy and the real fire a treat. Steve and Eleanor are experienced hosts. Instructions and payment arrangements were smooth and trouble free.
