We spent four nights at La Mere Poulard.

We were left with the powerful impression that it was not just the cows in Normandy being milked.
The fellow at reception (Dion) suffered from terminal disinterest in his clientele.
We had a very pleasant but tired room on the fourth floor accessed by a very narrow and steep staircase.
He declined to assist with our luggage until my wife put her foot down. Also, the ;young American couple in the room next to us, were met with the same disinterest and the fellow steadfastly refused to assist them at all with their luggage. The fellow at reception also avoided eye contact with any of us and it was clear he was not enjoying his job.

The chambermaids worked very hard and diligently to service the rooms and they were magnificent. Their job was not made any easier by the the stained and worn out carpets in our rooms.

The breakfasts (we stayed four nights) were generous and offered a wide variety of fresh foods (apart from tired gelatinous fruit salad).

We found the costs of accommodation and the additional costs of the breakfasts to be excessive, and we would recommend that when prospective travelers staying on Mont St Michel should canvas other options before considering a night or to with this tired old lady who is sadly resting on her laurels.

Room Tip: cosnider looking elsewhere, but the garret rooms are attractive

Great location, good services, furniture to be improved. Historical photos on the walls make you feel proud of sharing the location. The restaurant concept is very interesting. Prices are higher than quality overall, though...

Amazing experience to be able to stay in Mont St Michel - our bedroom view was amazing and we overall enjoyed our stay there. We were however disappointed to hear that a diner-breakfast deal was not avail to us especially as we ate in Les Terrasses Poulard... Dated but part of the experience...

I recently stayed here for one night. The arrival to the hotel was truly tramatic - the hotel did not provide any directions, and only instructed me to contact the hotel for the gate code upon arrival. I ended up at several wrong gates - one of which incorrectly allowed me access in my vehicle across the bridge - all of which took over an hour to figure out. After stopping to ask several bus drivers, traffic custodians, and others, I finally ended up at Parking Lot A where I used the access code to park in the lot. (Upon departure the "free parking" ended up with payment demanded to exit the parking lot.)

It was enjoyable to catch the free bus taking me across the bridge to the hotel - which is conveniently situated just inside the city gates. The hotel check in is just to the right of the famous restaurant. As another reviewer mentioned - be prepared for stairs! The entrance is on the ground floor and the restaurant is on the first floor. My room was on the 3rd floor - four long flights of stairs up with luggage (suggestion - pare down to what is essential to pack for staying on Mon Sainte Michel).

I was in a room on the end, with a pleasant cross breeze from windows on two sides of the rooms. The room overlooked the lake (when the tide was in) and the bridge to the island. The furnishings are basic but clean. Toiletries are sparse and harsh - bring your own. The bathroom definitely needs an update - the flooring is soft and squishy, the shower sprayed water everywhere and flooded the room, the toilet was in a separate tiny room with little windows without privacy curtains which had people on the walls of the abbey peering in.

The hotel was in a perfect location for staying on the island overnight. I would highly recommend staying overnight to avoid the bulk of the crowds during the day. It was surprising to see the number of people trying to squeeze themselves through the narrow streets in the morning as I was leaving.

We had a great family visit to La Mere Poulard this summer. Omelettes are justifiably famous and service was very good on a busy day. It's not cheap but well worth a visit - a real institution in Mont St Michel.
