We have just returned from a wonderful week in this beautiful gite. Alain and Cathie were wonderful hosts, very friendly and welcoming. The gite is immaculate and well presented and in a perfect location for exploring the town. We cannot wait to book again and go back next year. Highly recommended. Thank you Alain and Cathie.
This is our 5th year visiting Boulogne and we always used to stay in a budget hotel near the river - however as my parents are now a little older we wanted to stay closer to the old town to avoid quite so much walking in the evenings.
Well you can't get much closer that this, as it's in the heart of the old town around the corner from the basilica. You're about 2 minutes walk from the local boulangerie and less than 5 from most of the restaurants and bars in the old town.
The property itself is lovely, a very good size and perfectly set out for 2 adult couples - the bathroom is huge and there's a downstairs cloakroom as well. The kitchen is well equipped and even in December it was lovely and warm all the time. It;'s a nice mix of old and modern and has absolutely everything you could need.
There's no off street parking on site and the road is very narrow, but there is a free car park at the end of the street and further free parking outside the city walls, so that really wasn't a concern for us.
All in all I would definitely recommend!
Absolutely fantastic house, everything you could need and in a fantastic location in the old town.
Just a short stroll round the corner to restaurants and bars or you can venture out of the old town and down to the port and beach. We loved the Vole Hole and The Froggy Blue for drinks in the old town.
The owners have paid a great deal of attention to little touches with things like good quality towels and bedding etc giving the house a feeling of luxury.
We will definitely book again.
We loved this house. It was sparkling clean - holiday lets often leave a lot to be desired on the cleaning side of things. There was lots of space in the bathroom and main bedroom for putting away all your things - not always the case with holiday lets. Super big bathroom with decent water pressure with additional separate loo downstairs. The kitchen was a great size and had a dishwasher (but no washing machine). The street was very quiet at night, although only steps away from a bakery, creperie, bar and restaurants.
The only things missing were a bread knife and cooks knives in the kitchen - there were just two small paring knives. However, the bakery round the corner will cut your loaf for you if you ask them.
It would also be nice to have a guest book where you could leave comments - such as tips on good local restaurants - for those coming after you.
Boulogne-Sur-Mer was a little quiet for us, but if we did ever return here, we would definitely rent this house and we have already passed the details on to someone we met in a local bar who was staying in a hotel but planned to return and wanted a holiday let.
