We arrived here for a 3 week holiday with our 2 sons (19 and 21) whose friends and girlfriends joined us at different times. Everyone said how beautiful the setting is and thoroughly enjoyed their time at the villa and in the surrounding area. The villa is just as described in the details, but so much more. The views are spectacular and ever changing, the pool is a delight, the villa is spacious and well equipped, but what we were looking for was a home, which this most certainly is - full of art and interesting pieces picked up from all over the world. Jeanne and David are most entertaining hosts who are very discreet but happy to answer questions and advise about the area.

Thank you. This is the response we hope for when offering our home for a holiday rather than just a rental property as most properties are. We want to convey the atmosphere of a home and a place in which we can share many of the experiences of our life with our guests. Having travelled all over the world and enjoyed a rich family life we like to share with those who come..

“A luxurious holiday home offering unprecedented quality facilities”
Reviewed 23 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I rarely write holiday reviews as they risk clouding an objective opinion of the villa with a list of subjective comments, by nature more critical than complimentary: But here I feel compelled to make an exception.

As a middle-aged family of father, mother, son, daughter and 18 month grand daughter, we stayed two weeks in this villa in August 2013. On returning home we read the Trip Advisor reviews of S. Rekha and Wolvojo who had stayed in the property immediately before us.

We do not recognise this villa from their descriptions, and must strongly disagree with virtually all their considerable criticism of the property. We found our stay enjoyable and relaxing with the villa providing a level of comfort and quality well in excess of both the normal expected in a rental property and even considerably above what we had expected from the owner’s own description.

If you want to stay in a standard, somewhat sterile and empty holiday villa, equipped with the basic required, Villa La Cerisaie is not for you. It is the owner’s much loved full-time home which they vacate during the summer months to a separate and unobtrusive flat at the rear of the property.

As such the villa is fully equipped with quality furniture, pictures, ornaments and kitchen utensils all acquired during the world-wide travels of this artistic, mid-70s retired British couple. Personal items and clothes were removed, but the level of equipment offered - from cleaning utensils to toilet rolls - meant a pleasantly inexpensive initial trip to the supermarket.

The villa’s description as being ‘staffed’ alerted us to the possible nearby presence of the owners and subsequent enquiries left us fully aware that they would be next door. In common with many seasoned villa rental holiday makers, used to owners not being on site, this prospect left us initially unsettled.

But David and Jeanne Turner proved to be a charming, friendly and reserved couple who fully respected their guest’s privacy. We could have seen them only a couple of times during the fortnight, but we chose to visit them often as they became friends. Never once though did they invade our privacy.

The property was immaculately clean inside and out. The spacious and safe pool and jacuzzi were a delight and we never experienced a single water shortage.

Yet surpassing even the very spacious and artistically decorated interior, was the villa’s secluded, totally private elevated location, high in the mountains, offering fantastic views of the Pyrenees.

And just 10 minutes by car took us to the charming typically French town of Ceret.
A relaxing, enjoyable and stress free holiday with not a single complaint.

Mr Haywards review of our property reflects similar comments from the many clients we have enjoyed having over the past sixteen years of summer rentals. We thank him and his family for their thoughtful comments which makes to us our offering of the summer rental of our villa all worthwhile.

The villa was in an excellent area and the view was fantastic. The villa was not As described..there was only one en suite bathroom not two.. There were no sea views..The property was staffed but we weren't expecting a visit everyday.. The outside area was not clean.. The pool went green after a few days and we were given different stories for the reason all rubbish.. It was only sorted when we pushed it.. The barbecue was filthy and un useable which they did clean eventually.. The kitchen was so dark you couldn't cook in it and we ended up eating out nearly every night..
There was only enough hot water for 3 hot showers a day .. No good for us as there was 7 of us..
The property was tired and in need of repair.. Lots of broken things..
I wouldn't recommend booking unless it has an update and repair..

Further to our response to this review we realise now that without their security deposit we would have been within our rights to refuse them entry to the villa but as one member of the group had already crashed her hired car we offered her comfort as best we could. On the arrival of all members of the party who had only put in the sat nav our postal code which covers a vast region for all Pyrenees Orientals not our particular place as seen on the map of our advert, the first thing they chose to do was to demand more umbrellas, floating toys in the pool and extra loungers. We provide more than sufficient for eight people. Second, they discovered our best hifi equipment in the sitting room and dragged it to the pool area to play loud booming music on all day and night for the whole region to hear. Echoing throughout countryside. we do provide another smaller radio/cd player that could have been more suitable in our view. Three showers only for the water to run cold suggests that they spent hours each time running the water as two full capacity emersion heaters plus an extra for kitchen use only is surely more than adequate.
We also had to ask them to keep locked the villa if they went out as we can have, and have had only five weeks previously, thieves, who had cleared out all the contents of our daughters mobile home nearby and we were concerned for the safety of their, and our, property. With no near neighbours we are obviously vulnerable. Hence our being on the property for the safety of visitors.
Their response to us was of surly nonchalance.
On their departure during the early hours of the morning well before eight am we later discovered on the side of our new car a deep scratch clearly having been made by a sharp instrument. Strange for a car parked near our apartment with only the occupants of our villa around.
Over the years we have entertained people ranging from Counts to taxi drivers, multi millionaires, leading politicians, composers, writers and all manner of occupations, many of whom have returned several times. None of whom have given us anything but pleasure and respect. We rest our case.

“Incorrectly described in need of maintenance and repair”

The villa was described as "staffed" We were unaware that this meant that the owners were living on site and would be using the pool themselves. The house is full of personnal items such as photos, ornaments, food etc and is clearly a family home that they rent out when they can
It was declared that the location was 20 mins from perpignan airport when it was clearly much further as proved by the sat nav
We were told 3 bathrooms of which 2 en suite. There was only one en suite and the master bathroom that was in desperate need of repair. The shower did not work the toilet was loose and we were told that we could not use the bath due to water shortages.Only hot water for 3 showers was supplied before it ran cold. The villa sleeps 9!!
The pool and pool area were not maintained. When we asked we were told that the pool guy visits regularly but for some reason did not attend the week before our booking. When the water started staining our clothing and turning murky we insisted that it was cleaned to which the owners threw in chlorine tablets in an attempt to clean it. Only when all this didn't work they got the maintenance people in but by this time we were well into our second week.. The kitchen and bathrooms were not clean and light bulbs were missing all over the property
The owners came over to the house at least daily and if not more!!
The villa was described as having a snooker table of which there was no sign!!
The villa is in a beautiful location high up in the mountains and could be an absolutely wonderful holiday let butt he owners are a lonely retired couple who are finding it difficult to maintain and clean the property and too tight to pay for help!!
Would not recommend

In response to the review by Jo Patel we wish to state that we are incorrectly described as in need of maintenance or repair.
The Villa was refurbished one year ago with the addition of two new bathrooms, one ensuite which makes three bathrooms with three new toilets in total. Plus a new Utility room housing washing machine; dishwasher, American style refrigerator and granite work surfaces all over as well as new cupboards and very large sink.
We make it clear in our terms and conditions that we are on site in our own private apartment at the rear of the villa.
The villa is full of antiques and paintings which we also make quite clear in our description of the property which we invite people to view on our website. Family photos are mainly put away with the exception of a few plus oil painted family portraits professionally painted by the owner on the walls left to convey the ambiance of a family home. It is clearly a family home NOT a rental home used for holidays only and all our clients over the past sixteen years have valued this aspect. Clients from all over the world.
We have never declared that the location is only 20 minutes from Perpignan but we do state that our location is eighteen miles south of Perpignan centre. The airport is north of Perpignan.
The shower has always worked in the master bathroom and all showers were new one year ago. We did stress that water is scarce in the whole region during the dry months and should be used with care. ie: local people could not use hosepipes of wash cars. Hot water for showers comes from two new heaters one year old whose capacity is limited to normal usage.
We are allowed no more than eight people for insurance and local regulations though we can sleep more.We also choose not to sleep more than eight people so as not to over use our natural resources.
The pool area is maintained and the official pool maintenance firm come to the house weekly and will confirm this but due to an electrical storm the pump on the filter was knocked out for twenty four hours at the time of the holiday of the Feast of the Assumption but was immediately restored two days later. The pool had been cleaned the day of arrival for these clients and this can also be verified by the pool maintenance firm.
Professional cleaners arrive on changeover day plus the owners and extra family aid to prepare the house and thoroughly clean it ready for new incoming clients even though it states in our rules and regulation for clients to leave the house in a good state for the use of future clients.
Kitchen and bathrooms being the first priority with clean bedding changed also. The clients never mentioned any of these problems to the owners and had refused to pay a security deposit eight weeks previous with the balance and did not bring this with them as expected on arrival. They refused to give us the returnable security deposit inspite of having signed our terms and conditions. This particular client claims he rents properties in the UK but has never heard of a security deposit which to us and other proprietaires similar has always been standard procedure.
Our cleaners also declared on the departure of these clients that they had never seen a villa left in such a filthy state with curtains pulled off the rails and refuse left under the beds – altogether six sacks full (large bin bags) to clear away and pots left unwashed in the kitchen inspite of the dishwasher being available. This can also be verified by our professional cleaners.
We have no snooker table or place to put it and therefore have never advertised this. We are aware that some websites NOT employed by us, claim all manner of attractions with our property ie: horse riding, and disabled facilities etc, We do NOT claim these these with the two firms we employ.
It is in our view libellous to describe us as lonely retired couple finding it difficult to maintain and too tight to pay for help. We are well known in the area with both family and many friends nearby all willing to lend a hand if need be. With state pensions and educational pensions we consider ourselves to be comfortable. We pay for cleaners and maintenance throughout the year as well as having our adult children and grandchildren helping us when ever they come to stay. My husband, a retired University Head of Department, has just published a book about the area available from Amazon and other foremost book sellers throughout the world. The title is ¨Murder in Paradise” by David Turner which describes the area and some of the characters who live here. We can hardly be described as lonely or out of touch with what is expected professionally from us after sixteen plus successful years in the rental business. We are thankful for having many other clients who are very satisfied for what they have found.
