“Living in the fairy tale!”

Arriving here is a bit like checking in to a medieval fairy tale. it is situated right in the heart of the centre of Sarlat- a wonderful medieval town. The flat itself is very comfortable and has all you need. The beauty is in the original fireplaces, the stone staircase and the thick walls- you can easily "feel" the age of the environment- just amazing. In terms of practicalities parking can be a bit of a pain when you first arrive with all your stuff but even in August there are places relatively close- 200/400 metres. You need to pay 5 Euros a day to park until 2 pm- and 5 Euros for the second half of the day- but that worked out fine for us as we headed off at lunchtime for the day to swim in the Dordogne. The main thing is to decide if you want to stay in town or in the countryside. Staying in town means you can watch the "shows" in the evenings in the square, have a few glasses of wine and know the kids are close to home when their batteries run out. You also get to see Sarlat before the tourists arrive and after they have left- a chance to really soak up the magic of the place without the crowds. The downside is that you are in a town so there is not the "countryside feel" or rural terrace for breakfast. This worked out well for us as we spent all day at one of the beauty spots and then enjoyed the evenings and mornings in the town. I thought it was reasonably priced and would recommend it to someone who wants a bit of medieval town life. My only real complaint was that we had no internet for a week- I guess certain mod cons are less available when you life in a place as old and as charming as this. The agency was very kind and let me use their connection for the essential emails. Overall it was great- with a lobby for a push chairs on the ground floor which was very handy. Open your window in the morning and look out onto a scene that comes straight out of a film set.....but it is real- simply amazing! Please keep it a secret though as I really want to come back next year!!! Thanks to the agency for looking after us so well- we arrived at 1 am in the morning and were left very clear instructions on how to get in. Be warned though the key is hard to use in the door, it may have been fixed by the time you read this but persistence does prevail- it is the "right key". Hope you enjoy as much as we did. Thanks

Liked best: living in a film set that was real!
Liked least: parking can be a bit of a pain if you have sleeping kids in the car- not that bad- but especially on market days
