The apartment inside was exactly as it appears in the photos, very quaint, homely and left impeccably clean for arrival. The bedroom sizes were large and with an ensuite each made for a comfortable stay. The location was perfect, on the fringe of the old town, away from noise from late night revellers and bars and early morning delivery trucks, yet barely a 2 minute walk to the thick of the action. The BIG issue however was that when we arrived the whole laneway to the apartment in all directions was excavated to about a depth of 5 feet due to the council laying new services - see photos. Access was only available via uneven, suspended metal gangway planks which was not good for my elderly parents. There was much noise during some days (generators, excavation gear etc) right at our front door. Imagine the dust etc. We appreciate that this was beyond the control of the unit manager but we were only notified about this less than 24 hours prior to arrival so there was no time to consider other options. It is obvious that this work has been going on for some time and may continue to! At the very least all affected renters should be given plenty of notice in case they want to cancel or offered a discount. If you have booked for the near future you may want to reconsider if this doesn’t suit you. Once the work is completed this apartment is otherwise spot on.
The Sarlat Town House was in a perfect location. It was a couple of minutes from the old town. Full kitchen, large lounge area, two big bedrooms. It is a lovely property. Like others have noted, the property was a bit musty when we first arrived but it was fine as soon as the place was aired out a bit. The owner's communication was probably my biggest gripe. His response time to the original request was slow, I sent him an email the day before check-in as I hadn't heard from him and then I had to email to find out what the progress with refunding our 250 Euro security deposit was (a week after we left) only to be told that TripAdvisor handle it. It was a shame because it was 5 stars but for the lax attitude to communication from the owner. And if you want to take a security deposit, have the courtesy to communicate that all is in order and let the tenant know what the process and timeframes are.
Loved the location so close to the medieval city and all its restaurants, shops, markets, attractions.
It was easy to find free parking close by in the Sundhouse lot. Also easy to retrieve the keys in the lockbox at the apartment.
The apartment is cosy, clean and well equipped with all necessities, perfect for two couples as each has their own bedroom with ensuite shower/wc. Towels and linens provided were of good quality.
We only cooked breakfasts but did make use of the wonderful picnic basket provided on several occasions for our lunches. Enjoyed dinner at wonderful restaurants all within walking distance.
The Sarlat Townhouse was centrally located in the town with easy access to all parts. Sarlat is also very well located for visiting the numerous small and beautiful villages in the Dordogne.
The house was comfortable with everything needed for a holiday stay and the bed on the upper floor was very comfy. Parking was also available in the car park up on the main road and free too during September. The main negative about the property was the smell of drains in the lower living area, I would probably rate the property as good but this is not available on TripAdvisor.
Our party arrived from the UK and Australia to live in such a charming medieval town and to experience a completely different way of life.
Sarlat Town House is situated right on the edge of the old town and only a short walk to a large selection of restaurants, bars, shops and that wonderful market.
We loved being among the rooftops with the pretty attic and 1st floor bedrooms accessed by a spiral staircase. The interior decoration and furnishings complimented the age of the house, and the amenities made it so comfortable. Sarlat and the Dordogne is a fascinating area and we wish we could have stayed so much longer.
Tip - If you choose to arrive on Market day then vehicular access to the property is limited due to market stalls and street closures. Don't let this put you off. We just parked up for a couple of hours and mingled amongst the many stalls until the road reopened.
Thanks Steve for providing such a welcoming and comfortable property.
