We arrived at Lavender Cottage and was not disappointed at all.
Katie the owner met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the house , and then gave us the very generous welcome pack, cheese , pate, butter, baguette, beers and champagne !
The house itself is a mile or so from beautiful Sarlat, whilst i'm sure you could walk into town getting back would be difficult because the house is set at the top of the hill, and walking back would be rather hard work, we didn't try!
Katie offered to take us and collect us if we wanted to go to into Sarlat any evening to enjoy a meal, which was more than kind of her, and that's how she and her husband were for the whole of our stay. On hand for anything at all but certainly not intrusive .
The house is extremely well equipped and very clean , it is set in beautiful grounds in a valley with lots of wildlife and stunning scenery . The pool is very large just a few steps away from the house.
We found a pizza restaurant within walking distance , but Sarlat itself has so many amazing restaurants to choose from all within a few mins drive, or you could sit relax enjoy the peace and quiet and use the BBQ .
We found a large supermarket with a few mins drive so everything really is on your door step here.
We certainly would return to this property if in the area again.
Unaccustomed to reviews but lavender cottage, and owners Katie and Jean Eric deserve one. In a fabulous location just outside Sarlat the cottage has good accommodation and lovely outside areas in which to relax and dine. The pool area is just a few metres away and well equipped, a great place to relax after seeing the many beautiful chateau, gardens and hill top villages along the Dordogne. Sarlat is a jewel and the markets a must but take Katie's advice on the restaurants. Katie and Jean Eric are very welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed spending time with them. Lavender Cottage is a must book.
Katie sent us a map to find Lavendar Cottage in advance which was so helpful. Cottage is very well equipped and on arrival a warm welcome from Katie and a very generous ‘welcome pack’ which included cheeses, bread, milk ...and even a bottle of wine and champagne! The pool was cleaned every day. Some relations of Katie took over the care of the holiday let during the week and they were equally helpful and attentive. The kettle stopped working and within 30 minutes it had been replaced!
Lavender Cottage has a superb location with stunning valley views and is well positioned for visiting sights such as Lascaux II. The cottage is equipped with everything you need, the pool area is very well maintained and the hammock is a lovely touch! The only thing to perhaps be aware of is that the bedrooms have no doors - one is upstairs and one downstairs so there are no privacy issues but the sound does carry so if you are upstairs wanting to sleep while someone is downstairs talking or watching TV, you'll struggle. Bring earplugs :-) Thank you to our hosts for a wonderful stay.
Lavender Cottage is beautifully situated on the outskirts of the town of Sarlat, so there are plenty of facilities on your doorstep and many of the Dordogne's sites are well within reach. We particularly enjoyed our visit to Rocamadour.
But once you've done some sightseeing, the house is perfect to return to. It is as well equipped as any holiday property we've ever stayed in, and the pool is wonderful (and was very necessary during the hot weather that we enjoyed). There are lots of areas in which to relax in the gardens. Finally, huge thanks to our hosts Katie and Jeaneric, particularly for the home-grown tomatoes and figs and the delicious fig jam.
