Il Falcone was recommended by our hotel Borgo Villa Castelletti as one of several we could choose for a good meal. Kind and friendly family establishment so local and traditional no multi-lingual menus are used. This was as perfect as could be for us. Our server helped us understand the offerings of the evening and also graciously agreed to allow us to enjoy a very special Brolio we had collected earlier on our travels in Tuscany during our meal. All our selections were familiar, but still prepared with a unique style that really set Il Falcone apart from the dozens of other restaurants we'd dined in the previous 20 days we'd been in Italy. And I must mention the Bistecca we decided on. A wonderful T-bone of 1.2 kilos, seared just to rare over a wood fired grill to be shared between us two, from the Italian equivalent of Prime Beef (which I'll say exceeded ANY piece of prime beef I've ever enjoyed stateside!) To top the night off, we were offered and chose the house seasonal special dolce. A ultra moist cake infused with whole, ripe Sangiovese grapes, baked to perfection, served with a side glass of Vinsanto in which to dip accompanying biscotti!! We were visiting Tuscany at just the time of the fall harvest and this last little piece of culinary magic really made the journey worthwhile. Incredible! Finally as we were preparing to depart, our gentleman server offered us a short visit to the kitchen and to meet the chef! Forgive me that I don't remember this kind and humble lady's name, but she could have been Mama to most all the staff. We did have quite a language barrier, but that didn't seem to matter. Gratitude, thanks and appreciation can be, and was expressed between us as people of different heritage. She knew we loved her special Sangiovese cake. She moved a large portion of the cake and a bunch of grapes to garnish to a fresh plate just so I could photograph her presenting this dish - her smile, and gentle manner spoke to us in the universal language of kindness. After a traditional Italian exchange of embrace and kiss to each cheek, we took our leave. Grazie to all of Il Falcone!! An amazing evening never to be forgotten!
