I am writing a review of this hotel although I was not actually able to stay there. I am writing because of the tremendously positive experience I have had with them which is in sharp contrast to another hotel near them. My wife and I had booked Stella Maris as well as several other hotels on Sardinia and in other parts of Italy for our honeymoon. Just two weeks after our wedding at the end of April, my wife was diagnosed with a severe internal ailment which required surgery and completely forced the cancellation of our entire honeymoon. With less than 3 weeks notice in advance of our arrival, the management of this hotel provided me with a complete refund with absolutely no problems or questions asked. We tremendously appreciate this gesture and cannot thank them enough for their consideration in a time of severe challenge and need for my wife, myself, and our families. While this may seem 'normal' for a hotel to provide a refund under such dire extenuating circumstances, we have been completely screwed by another hotel in Sardinia called 'Faro Capo Spartivento', an alleged 'world class' 5 star hotel. I provided them with 25 days notice and the circumstances of our cancellation, yet they have with-held more than 1400 euro from me and refuse to communicate whatsoever with me and provide me with any rationale why. So in summary, I want to provide the utmost confidence that Stella Maris is run by very good, conscientious, and respectful management, and I hope to stay there at a point in the future when my wife's recovery allows. Thank-you for reading my review and I would be happy to answer any questions.

This hotel is a good find and if you have tired of expensive boutique hotels with designer everything, then this is the hotel for you. We chose this hotel because we just wanted a short break and being within a couple of hours from London it is very convenient. There was a direct flight into Cagliari and the hotel is about one hour’s drive from the airport.
Situated right on the beach, it has the appearance of a classic 1960’s hotel. You walk out through the bar onto well-maintained grass lawns with the sandy beach and sea just below. The beach is fine sand and the sea is shallow for a long way out with no rocks or stones to tread on. So this is perfect for families. The other great thing is that it has just had a refit so everything is new and fresh - new bathrooms, new furniture, new electronic room keys etc.
The standards are very high and the staff are absolutely charming – all of them. The food is amazing with huge hors d’oevre every night oysters, langoustine, Parma hams etc. - then the pastas and then the main course. We put on quite a few pounds!
The hotel was full, but there is plenty of room for everybody either in the dining room or on the sun beds, where they do have quite a strange system. There are two rows of sun beds on the beach and when we asked for the front row, the beach boys said they were all booked up and we had to take beds on the second row. Odd, as only about 10% of the front row was occupied at any given time. It appears that you have to book the sun beds for the whole week when you make your reservation, but we weren’t told this. Having said that, I am sure no one would notice if you took one of the front row beds.
This is absolutely not a big deal – just a strange procedure in an otherwise perfect hotel. We sat on the beach or on the grass or by the pool. It was a really great week for us and we would definitely go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view at the western end of the hotel

I am not one for resorts but this is pretty good - good location and facilities, and particularly nice gardens but probably not very different from many four star resorts in the area. Room had a nice balcony and view but was rather basically furnished with poor shower and no bath.

However the stand out for me was the food. Dinner was particularly good - large set menu with plenty of choice and beautifully cooked - and stunning buffet for starters. We only meant to eat in the hotel once but ended up eating there two of the three nights we stayed.

Did not care for the town and area around Villasimius very much, so would probably not return but the resort is good falling just short of great.

Set quite close to one of the areas many turqoise beaches - so relaxing to hear the breaking waves. The well serviced and monitored beach is just a stones throw from the split level pool and breakfast terrace. If you cannot make it that far then there are plenty of shades/loungers dotted amongst the well tended and colourful gardens.

Lunch was not available when we visited, but snacks could be purchased. Breakfast and Evening Dinner was a treat, the latter being four courses each evening of good italian food. By the time we got to the main course, we were allready full up!

Villasimius town is a short car journey away and has a couple of pizza/restaurant places for lunches and a few touristy shops - it is quite pretty around the eateries and a fountain and bank cash machine are conveniently situated here.

Staff were discreet, friendly and left you alone to enjoy the hotel until you needed something, when they were friendly and attentive. Possibly better than some 5 star hotels.
