Da Paolo is in the central piazza in Portovenere and open for lunch and dinner. Fresh seafood seems to be the speciality. We had a grilled shrimp & lobster plate that was delicious. We later had a pizza for lunch that was less exciting. Nice thin crust, but soggy. Short on sauce, what was there was pretty thin, and meat toppings were in very short supply. I know "pizza toppings" means different things outside the USA, but this was sparse even by those standards. People were great, and a very nice outside dining area, as well as intimate tables inside for dinner, make for a charming experience.

Poor service made the fact that the pizzas and food here are not very Italian tasting. The spaghetti was clearly microwaved from a packet and when I asked for my favorite Italian beer they said they could offer Becks instead.
Really fancied a pizza and this disappointed - there must be a better pizza in porto Venere!

The beef carpaccio is nothing like ever tasted before- 'marinated' the menu says. It doesn't say that it's salted to the point of vomit. None of us could down it even if the paid us. They were very understanding of our complaint and only made us pay 2 eur for a dish that costs 10 eur. Also they ran out of spicy pizza oil, while pizza is their specialty. Wishing them clients as good as their service. Careful, you have been warned.

Trying to find a place with early service in Porto Venere is not easy. At da Paolo the staff were willing to let us sit early and start looking at the menu to pick something for our daughter. The pizza and pasta were lovely. Food arrival a bit slow but given we were the first there the kitchen was likely just starting up.
We had previously had terribly poor service at the Palameria restaurant so it was so nice to have staff that were welcoming and willing to help.
Nothing is cheap in Porto Venere but in that context the meal was one of the better priced for the meal portions and quality of food. I would go again.

Went here with my gf. She ordered a Torino pizza and it was the best pizza I have ever tasted. Properly cooked through, amazing fresh ingredients. Highly advise eating here.. I had the pasta with shrimp and strawberries and that too was spectacular.
