It wasn’t really a storm. But after dragging our bags from the funicular, up winding cobbled streets, seeking our accommodation, we felt like we needed shelter or at least a place to stop and rest. And there was Serena to offer greeting and welcome. Though we were only there for one night, I continue to think of her as having offered “shelter from the storm.” (We could have had a free bus ride almost to the door but had not paid attention.) Our room was not yet ready (because we were early), but she allowed us to use it long enough for my wife to change clothes.

Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was large and boasted a vaulted ceiling from a previous use. Serena explained that the painting on the ceiling over the bed had been discovered during the renovation. Restoring it apparently slowed the process and cost much more than a coat of white paint. I gather that painting over it is not the way Serena does things; the painting was restored!

There was ample space for hanging things and bedside tables with lights on both sides of the large comfortable bed. We enjoyed hearing the three different bell towers chime the hours, consecutively rather than simultaneously – and also enjoyed that they did not continue all night. I had to go to the doorway to connect to Wi-Fi; but after that we stayed connected.

Serena has done a good job of preserving an old building while accommodating for modern conveniences such as indoor plumbing. My only caution to would-be visitors is the long flight of stairs up to the main floor. In Italian hill towns, that may be a predictable inconvenience. Medieval builders did not plan for elevators.

Breakfast consisted of an enjoyable variety of breads and pastries and coffee selection at her brother’s café next door. It’s a family affair. We also enjoyed a Panini and beer there at lunch time. And Serena actually treated us like family. When we departed, we felt like we were sure to return.

La Magnolia really is just 100 meters or so from the Duomo as well as close to good gelato that we enjoyed in the sun on the steps of the Duomo. Serena suggested 3 restaurants that are and have been family owned and operated for who knows how many generations. We were able to dine on traditional cuisine at one of them and were not disappointed.

La Magnolia was a good choice for us.

We have been staying at La Magnolia for a number of years now, and the location is perfect, right in the center of things, with many restaurants & shops within an easy walk. We rent an apartment, which has beautiful vaulted ceilings, frescoes, and a covered balcony. I've also seen the B&B rooms, which are lovely. Be advised, of course, that this is a very old building, with no elevator, but the very reasonable pricing more than makes up for that. Most important to us is the incredible service we get from Serena, who is warm, extremely accommodating, and a pleasure to deal with.

The location of this B&B is superb. It is right in the middle of the heart of the old town of Orvietto. The host Serena is friendly and helpful. Our room faced the street and the big magnolia tree in the Square. The square is lively during the day with shopping, street performers and restaurants. One afternoon we went back to the room to relax and were able to sit with the windows open and listen to a good street musician (when the big double windows are shut I did not notice any street noise). The only feedback I would give the establishment regards breakfast. Breakfast is served in the neighboring coffee shop that is run by a family member. The staff seemed inconvenienced by the B&B guests coming in to breakfast. The contrast between the welcoming of the B&B and the lukewarm reception at the coffee sop were noticeable. However, that would not prevent me from recommending this or going back.

This is a very nice BnB in the middle of Orvieto that we stayed in for 2 nights. Very clean and comfortable, and close to everything.

This is a great place to stay in Orvieto. Our room was lovely, huge, and spotless. The bathroom was also large with an awesome jet shower. Serena, the owner, is incredibly friendly and helpful. The price is very reasonable. It's located steps from the duomo and breakfast is included. Really, you can't beat this place. And Orvieto is the coolest place in Italy!

Room Tip: If you are staying for more than after days, ask for a room with kitchen.
