Look no further. You’ve found your dream villa. If you care about hospitality, accommodations, recommendations and beautiful views, you must book! Cecilia and her family took three years to renovate this stunning villa and their warmth and charm was simply unforgettable. We miss them and La Valiana desperately and we just got home 24 hours ago.
I booked this place on a whim. The reviews were great and the pictures were beautiful. After waiting and waiting I finally got to visit in person and the villa did not disappoint at all. It is GORGEOUS. The owner Cecilia is an absolute delight and her mom and father pour their heart into this place and it shows. I just got home and can’t wait to come back. The care they put into every room is unbelievable. The brunch and breakfasts are over the top delicious. The lasagna is the best we had and Mamma made us another dish. We had a fantastic wine tasting. A private dinner. The views are to die for. If you are looking for a drop dead gorgeous place to stay in Tuscany, look no further. Thank you Cecilia for a week filled with memories that will last a lifetime.
We arrived at La Valiana between visits to two beautiful Italian cities, Florence and Venice. It was our time in Tuscany and the plan was to visit area hill towns while staying in a centrally located villa that could provide us with a comfortable home base from which to travel. What ended up happening was that we found ourselves finding reasons to spend more time at La Valiana. From the moment we arrived, we felt pampered and taken care of in both large and little ways. Cecilia and her parents were delightful, but not intrusive, and always concerned that we had everything we needed. La Valiana is a labor of love and that is clear. The villa is well equipped, the bedrooms spacious and comfortable, the common areas warm and inviting with furniture and art from the area. They have thought of everything - bathrobes and slippers, bath towels and pool towels, hand embroidered linens for the beds, wines available for purchase on site, special Tuscan treats upon arrival, a glorious heated pool and jacuzzi, a library filled with reading material and tourist information for the area, spectacular grounds and a view to die for! I think it would be simply impossible to not enjoy La Valiana! Thank you to Cecilia and family for giving us such a beautiful place from which to explore Tuscany. It was a dream come true.
It starts before you actually get to La Valiana, when you communicate with the owner Cecilia with any questions about the area or the visit. The responses come quickly and are helpful right out of the gate. You are dealing with a family run operation and not a company. We quickly came to realize that is a huge positive.
La Valiana represents a vision realized for Cecilia and her parents Ivo and Alma, to create the perfect vacation place for other families to come enjoy. they have done that with this sprawling villa overlooking the vineyards of Tuscany.
Location- Situated perfectly between many of the great hill towns of Tuscany. Classics like Montepulciano and Corona are about 20 minutes away. Lesser known but very charming Castiglione del Lago the same distance. A bit farther but just under an hour away are gems like Assisi, Orvieto, Pienza, Montechiello and Montalcino. We usually left La Valiana in the late morning and explored one or two hill towns wrapped around a lunch in the town. In the evening we hit Cortona and Montepulciano when the tourists had largely departed and the streets quieted. We had a world class dinner in Cortona one night. Cecilia can provide restaurant suggestions, and there are lists left for you at the villa. One of the great gems of Italian wine, Avignonesi, is literally right down the gravel road about a half mile. We enjoyed the lunch/tasting/tour visit there, and then has as our local wine store one of the great vineyards in the country when we needed to reload!
The Villa- The family has brought the villa back to life and it is spacious and well designed. Bedrooms are on the ground floor as well as the second and third. Each has large windows that you can swing open and enjoy spectacular views from every bedroom. The bedrooms are large, bathrooms very smartly designed. The shower in our room was the best we experienced in Italy, and beat the one at the St. Regis in Florence! The common areas of the villa were spacious. Best of all were the outside seating options. Each morning we started at the arbor down by the pool area for breakfast and coffee as we looked out over the vineyards. In the evening there was a nice elevated seating area above the pool by the house with great sunset views. I read a book for a couple of hours one afternoon in a third seating area in a tiny gazebo. The kitchen is easily used, and Cecilia is a phone call away if needed.
Our final night at La Valiana we wanted a private dinner, and Cecilia arranged for Luca, the head chef at Avignonesi Winery to cook dinner. This was an event. On the second floor Cecilia and family designed a kitchen for cooking classes and private dinners, and we enjoyed our finest dinner while in Italy as we watched Chef Luca prepare the dinner and then enjoyed it as the sun set.
The pool was warm and welcoming, the beds comfortable, the grounds very well kept by Ivo. The views were peaceful and in every direction. Nature was all around us. La Valiana turned out to be exactly what we wanted four our five day visit to this region.
La Valiana is a gorgeous villa with magnificent views of the Tuscan skyline.
One can visit many closeby beautiful towns like Pienza, Montepulciano, and others
But make sure you enjoy the stay in the villa itself.
Beautifully designed, one can cook and eat in various places of the villa.
We travelled with friends and had a wonderful time.
Cecilia.the owner and her parents were also delightful as well.
While it is a bit prizy, it is recommended by us.
