Rude service and silly overrated food. Don’t see the reason to stop by. Just avoid it. Tourists’ trap

Buonasera,

I was somewhat unimpressed after hearing someone rave about Volo. Three of us went and we always try each other's dishes to get a better idea of the restaurant. First off, service was poor. Our server was unattentive and honestly seemed somewhat untrained. I always throw this out there when I criticize staff, but I worked in the industry for many years so I notice the small things servers should and shouldn't do. Unattentive is perhaps the best one word description though.

Service aside I'd give volo a three. Salads and apps were lovely. I myself had the fried octopus and shrimp. The octopus was fried to perfection which is a difficult feat for many, keeping it tender but cooled throughout.

Mains were disappointing though. I ordered the veal. It was overdone, dry, and seemed more like my grandmothers roast beef. It didn't have the soft and tenderness of usual veal. I'm not sure if it was the wrong cut but either way it was served well done. The pairing of the accoutrements on the plate was lovely though.

Regardless, for being touted as a top establishment for fine dining in Lecce I was left unimpressed. I'll skip this one on my return to Lecce.

Volo was recommend by our Airbnb host and is only a block away from our apartment. It is off the beaten path on a small street back behind the Duomo but is situated on our path to city centro. However it had been closed for winter break and only reopened this week, lucky for us. It has a beautiful white walled dining room with limestone accents and high ceiling. The tables are decorated with lovely china, crystal, and dark tablecloths. Nice art and lighting complete the tasteful soundings. The food and wine selections match the sophisticated decor with many options including some local favorites. Started with fave beans and chicory (continuing my quest to find the best in Lecce) and must say it ranked right up there as tops. The menu also includes paired selections for primi and secondi courses, I chose menu #5 consisting of a “marriage” of orecchiette and macaroni in red sauce, which was great, and then meatballs in sauce, also great. My spouse had the swordfish and it was an interesting presentation and delicious too. The house red was also excellent. Having just reopened that day it was pretty empty. The owner was our server and made helpful suggestions. All in all a fine dining experience and well worth searching out. And really could there be a more charming place to just stroll and explore than Lecce, so get out and get lost in the charm.

We enjoyed this restaurant - from the interesting and tasty local starters to the main courses and a "pudding" as my partner said "to die for". It was a parfait of some sort but completely delicious.
Only downside was that on a cold night the heating decided to malfunction so it got quite cole towards the end of the meal.

We tried 3 starters to share so we could and try the local dishes. The food did not disappoint, along with an excellent and friendly service along with good local wine. Superb!
