I visited Fuiggi back in April with my daughter when on a trip to Rome. It was off peak, so there weren't many other tourists around. We were very hungry after a day out and we're looking for somewhere to eat - not everywhere was open yet and some of the places available seemed suitable for a more formal dining experience and were also a lot more expensive, others were of the cheap and cheerful variety. We were looking for good quality Italian food.
Neither of us can speak Italian, although I did have a guide book to make some attempt- it was a relief that the waiter's English was excellent and so we were able, with his guidance, to choose something from the menu. We started with a shared platter of cheese and cured meats.......it was absolutely enormous, to be honest it could have fed us both amply as a main course. The food was so good and fresh and of a great quality as well. The waiter was really friendly and chatty (but not overly so!) and the restaurant itself became really busy as the evening went on.
For our main course we chose a T-bone steak, which comes on a cast iron platter so that you can finish cooking the meat to your taste......it was cooked in an open oven in the restaurant and was sprinkled with coarsely ground salt -and that is all it needed. It was probably the best steak I've ever had, melt in the mouth steak! I recall we ordered a salad to go with it, it doesn't come with all the extras like chips or sauce or a grilled tomato like in the UK, but in my opinion, no extras were necessary. The atmosphere of the place, filled with locals and a great music playlist in the background, coupled with lovely friendly staff made this trip really memorable and if you're staying in or near to Fuiggi, we would definitely recommend it!
In total including wine, the meal was around £60 for both of us including a tip. Given the quality of the food I think this represents excellent value for money.
