We wanted a 9 day stay in Tuscany, somewhere in the countryside, not in a main city, where we could relax and also be within easy travel distance (with two children of 9 and 6) to main destinations (Florence, Siena, Certaldo, San Gimignano). We arrived at Villa Somelli and all of us went "wow!". We stayed in the Tower at the very top. What a view of the rolling Tuscan countryside, Vineyards, Olive groves. The kids couldn't wait to explore, so straight away we put on our shorts and went for a walk around the grounds. There are tow glorious pools overlooking picture postcard views and the kids loved running around the Olive groves. Francesco and Martin who welcomed us, speak excellent English and were so accommodating we felt instantly at home...but on holiday...very much on holiday. We were given fantastic recommendations on local restaurants, trains, supermarkets, banks..everything one could need. The only "negative" I have to say about Francesco and the Villa Somelli team is that after 9 glorious days in the sunshine in their lovely home..we had to go back to England to ours. We will 100% be back and in fact my wife and i are discussing a trip back at the beginning of the summer holidays, but no doubt it will be full. I would like to keep this place to ourselves, but that would be plain selfish. This is a wonderful place to be families and couples alike. If you're interested in holidaying in Tuscany, without breaking the bank in any way anddon't want to be in a city centre withthe flexibility to just do your own thing , then there is no place better. Grazie Francesco, Martin and Varo. We had an incredible holiday. We will be back!

Room Tip: The tower rooms 3 and 4 have amazing views but the main villa has a fabulous al fresco dining area and private pool.

We stayed in the tower in September. There is laundry and a pool. Note: there are quite a few stairs to the room and to the pool. The location is a bit out of town so if you do not have a rental car it is quite a walk. You can take a taxi for about $18.00.

The room itself was okay. The refrigerator is very small. There is a dishwasher but you are expected to buy your own soap. Same for toilet paper, shampoo and dish soap. Usually these items are provided. The bed was pretty comfortable.

Martin, the manager was very nice and helpful.

There should be a way to contact someone in case of any emergency. The phone in the room does not work.

We've stayed at Villa Somelli twice and it is exactly what you would imagine the perfect vacation in Tuscany would be. Breathtaking views of the castle, a vineyard selling wine just a short walk down the country road. Five bedrooms, your own pool for morning swims or evening under the stars. A beautiful garden framing the lovely walk down to the pool. And of course a bottle of wine from the vineyard as the sunset falls. Francesco is a remarkable host, friendly and elegant. We'll return again and again.

We spent a very nice time in the top appartment of the tower. The appartment was clean and beautiful an had everything we needed. The garden and the pool are perfect for relaxing and in a typic tuscany style. With the free bikes it took us 10-15 min. to get to empoli station from where there are regulary and cheap train connections to beautiful places like pisa, florence, livorno or viareggio (all reachable within an hour). Overall the place offered very good value for the money. But our host Francesco is the thing that made this experience really unique. He was friendly an polite and gave us precious tipps about where to go and what to do. He even drove us to a restaurant when it was raining and returned our rental car because we left earlier the the office opend! Thank you very much Francesco, you did much more for us then I ever expected.

We stayed in one of Villa Somelli's apartments for about ten days. The apartment was for 6-7 people, and quite large, with the exception of the tiny kitchen. It could have done with some more furniture (e.g., some more chairs or a second sofa) and kitchen utensils (e.g., a kettle); overall, though, it was fine. The owners were friendly and helpful. The best reason to stay here is the location - it was very quiet; the surrounding landscape is beautiful (the swimming pool has a great view); and Empoli is centrally located, and hence convenient for day trips to Tuscany's more famous tourist sites. You do need a (rental) car to get here though, or at least bicycles - a one-way taxi trip to Empoli station costs €15.
