We stayed at Stella Del Mare for 6 nights as part of our Italian Riviera train holiday with Rail Discoveries.

The hotel is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the train station and 5 mins from the beach. Plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and delis around. It's also worth visiting "Villa Rocca" botanical gardens which only costs 1 euro to get in.

Although we were part of a large group, check in was smooth and quick. The lift was only big enough for 2 people so we carried our cases up to our room! We were in room 401, which we were very happy with! The room had a small sea view, was very large with table & chairs, fridge and tea/ coffee facilities. We also had a huge walk in wardrobe at one end of the room. The bathroom was very small so our legs did touch the wall when sitting on the loo & shower cubicle was also tiny but we're both slim so it didn't cause us any problems! Safe was free to use.
We heard lots of people complaining that their rooms were small & they didn't have tea/ coffee making facilities so we were the lucky ones!
The beds were made & towels changed every day which was nice.

We had a lovely 4 course dinner each night with wine included. There was lots of variety and large portions of everything! The waiters/ waitresses were superb - always friendly, helpful and even remembered after day one that my partner didn't like olives!

The bar was OK but service was a bit disjointed! One night I ordered some drinks & was holding out my 20 euros trying to pay but the barman didn't take it, he just walked off! The next morning at breakfast a waiter approached us and asked "How do you intend on paying for those drinks you had last night?"! We felt a little embarrassed that we were made to look like we'd tried to get out of paying in front of the whole restaurant!

Whilst on the subject of breakfast, this was a little disappointing for my partner as he likes his "full English" but the hotel only offered a "continental" breakfast. This was OK with me as I'm happy with cereal or croissants. It would have been nice to have some pancakes though ;)

Overall the Stella Del Mare is a lovely little 3 star hotel. If I ever returned to Chiavari I'd definitely go back :)

Stayed here for 6 nights on a Rail Discoveries trip to the Cinque Terra, it's than 10 minutes from Chiavari station & within easy walking distance of the town centre.
The rooms were fine, modern with showers or bath, fairly quiet, with safes and free Wifi.
The food was good,4 coarses [choice of 2 mains], with wine and water every night. Very Italian...which is why we went there in the first place. Antipast, pasta, main then sweet.
There is a small bar with a few seats and a larger seating area just outside. The breakfast was normal Italian with cereals, meats, cheeses, fruit and pastries with a varied tea and coffee selection. Very good.
The young staff were superb, nothing being too much for them and always a smile. A nice surprise on the last night was.....well, it will not be a surprise if I told you would it?

Room Tip: Our room was down the side and very quiet. Shower bases can be slippy. Very small lift. Great staff.

We have recently returned from Chiavari from a Rail Discoveries holiday, who use this hotel. Our room was quite large, the bed was firm but OK, it had a peculiar sit down shower, which took time to get to grips with and was a source of amusement. It had all the usual goodies for a 3 star hotel room. The hotel was very clean, the staff courteous and efficient, and was in a good location for the sea, the town and the station. We were half board, so the breakfast was buffet and adequate, the 4 course evening meal was set for the group of us. This was again adequate but uninspiring, lacking in imagination. Our stay here was enjoyable because of the people in our group.

Room Tip: Not too sure on this one

Firstly we found the service and food to be first class - I can think of only one dish in the week which which I wouldn't have again, although the breakfasts were nothing particularly special (no hot food and not much choice) - aside from the coffee. The waiters/waitresses don't all speak great English, but they all had a great attitude, which is far more important.

The Hotel is conveniently located for both the seafront and the train station, yet street noise is quite low - helped by quality double glazed windows. However, tiled floors throughout meant that noise from other guests is very loud - we could clearly hear every footstep from the upstairs bedroom and the TV and conversation from the rooms either side. If you go to bed late and wake early this won't be a problem. Otherwise pack ear plugs.

We found the beds to be very hard and the bathroom inconveniently small. It is very easy to bash an elbow in the tiny shower (or accidentally adjust the output) and the bidet gets in the way when visiting the toilet.

The Air conditioning units are superb, though, so despite 30 degrees outside it was easy to cool off at the end of the day. The WiFi was reliable but not fast.

I have just returned from Chiavari and I'm eager to review the hotel because it is deserving of a lot of praise. The family owners and staff have been through a trying time following flooding in November but after a chic refurb, the hotel is now quite lovely.
Location is good and handy for the rail station for easy access to The Cinque Terra and Rapallo.
My room wasn't large but clean, airy and adequate. With so much to see in the area who wants to stay in the bedroom anyway?
Aldo cooks wonderfully and his wife,Anna is helpful and charming. Rogiero, Agnes, Matteo and Candy were superb in the restaurant.
I will return!
