This hotel is situated high on the side of a hill and overlooks the town. Across the valley is the Old Town which, I am told, is over an hour's walk away. But fear not, there is a road train (called the Chianciano Express) which operates a 'hop on/hop off' service, the nearest station being a twenty minute walk downhill from the hotel to the Piazza Italia in the New Town. Note: be aware of the walk back!.
Like 'Peter P', we were on a Great Rail Journeys stay at this hotel in late September (2016). It is, as he says, remote from the town although the hotel does provide a courtesy bus service. The staff were great and were kept very busy both in front of and behind the scenes. Our three course meals were preceded by a salad buffet with an excellent choice and concluded with tea or coffee.
By the way, Wi-fi is available also in the bedrooms now.More
