“Beautiful view”

I am writing the review with a slight delay, but better late than never.
The villa has amazing view and Antonio, who is taking care of the guests was just fantastic.
Unfortunately we found the villa slightly disappointing, it would need some refreshments works, the structure of bedrooms and bathrooms is not ideal. The house is on several floors, they are two bedrooms on the last floor with a tiny toilet. There is one bathroom on the kitchen level/ground floor and additional bedroom without door, next to the kitchen, one floor down was the living/tv room with additional bathroom, but to reach the bathroom, you must walk out of the house, take the steps to the garden and there you are.
The kitchen equipment was a little be poor, if you cook, you don't have proper knives and very few glasses.
We were 6 ladies and have enjoyed our stay, we choose the villa because of the previous reviews, but we found that some information stated was not correct.
To walk to the local beach is not close and the way is demanding. The local beach was not what we were expecting, lot of stones and not very attractive. The small shop in the village was missing lot of items and the prices are quit high.
We had no car, but I would recommend to have one, does the village is beautiful, you need to leave it if you stay longer, shopping is easier and cheaper in Cefalu and if you like nice, sandy beach, you have to go by car. The local buss has very limited departure/arrival time and after certain hour, there is no connection.
But be aware of the fact that you can not reach the house with a big car, the streets/curves are only for smaller cars.
The highlight of our stay was the view and the amazing care of Antonio, but if we compare the price and the standard of the villa, either it should be cheaper or the owners should make some effort and make it better.

“Stunning coastal location”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The village location was great with a restaurant, pizzeria, bar and small shop all within walking distance (uphill!). We managed without hiring a car and used the local bus service to the lovely town of Cefalu, the train from there to Palermo, and local taxis. We were helped by Antonio, the friendly local representative, who speaks excellent English, and was on hand for advice and to sort out any minor problems.

“Couldn't be happier with our choice of holiday rental!”
Reviewed 4 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Just back from a fantastic week at Villa Mara. Almost considered not writing this review as we don’t want too many people finding this gem and making it difficult for us to book again!

When we arrived (with very helpful guidance from Antonio!) it was one of those rare occasions where it is actually better in reality than in the pictures – the views are stunning.
We were a group of five and the house was perfect to hang out in all day, on the terrace or by the pool. The garden is also beautiful, with lots of fruits and an additional hang-out spot amongst the stunning cactuses.

Sant'Ambrogio village is also lovely, quiet with small winding roads, very picturesque. We went food shopping in Cefalu and prepared most meals at home, but there is also a restaurant and a pizzeria in the village for those who prefers it.

The beach is a few minutes walk, which suited us considering all the cheese and pasta we consumed... It was quiet and with gorgeous water – including some nice snorkelling opportunities.

We travelled around for a little bit but all agree that we had hit the jackpot with Sant'Ambrogio and Villa Mara in particular. Already planning our next trip!

“Paradise- a place not to be missed!”
Reviewed 27 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We are writing this review on our last day at Villa Mara, we have loved our stay in this villa for the second time and hope to return again.

On our arrival we were met by Antonio, an Italian gentlemen who is friendly and speaks excellent English. He guided us on where to park and explained everything about the villa.

The villa has amazing views which simply take your breath away and give you the wonderful sense of being in the right place. The villa is fully equipped, child - friendly and the pool has kept mine ( aged 4,5,7) entertained daily from breakfast until early evening. Antonio attends to the pool every morning and is available at all times if required. At the villa you are lost in the middle of nature and will find it hard to move away, however, the local beach is a 5-10 minute walk away where the sea is clear and warm.

The real charm about this place has to be the village in which the villa is situated, S Ambrogio. With its 200 inhabitants, the locals are extremely welcoming and friendly. It has 2 excellent restaurants, 2 bars and a small supermarket. The restaurants will not disappoint and we ate at both on repeated occasions. Mimmo who owns Osteria Bacchus is not only the chef who provides excellent food but brews his own wine, which comes highly recommended too!
Saros coffee bar does the best coffee and has fabulous views- a lovely place to go for a quiet drink with the locals and to view sunset.

Overall a great holiday and great villa.

“Stunning boundless sea view on august 14”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Breathless view of the sea and the Sant'Ambrogio coast. Even Alicudi and Filicudi islands are visible if no haze. The view changes with the sun light from the big terrace of each of the 3 levels (pool+lounge, kitchen, rooms). Any time of the day finds its place: early swim in the pool then breakfast, tan bath, outside shower, reading time, afternoon relax, happy hour, food preparing, dinner and after dinner relax watching the moon light reflected on the sea (or Tv lounge). Wonderful natural temperature any time of the day, shadow and conditioned air as well. Good room space and terrace privacy. The garden is enreached with palms and tipycal fruit trees ( we were told to eat the mature fruits ( grapes, figues), the local manager is very gentle). The village is placed on the coast behind the house. The house is placed on the coast with a narrow road and Having a big car the parking is not close to the house. The owner provides a book with lots information of the local habits, holyday, food and cities.
