I love to find restaurants that represent the character of a region. Le Scalette, so aptly named for the stairs that lead up to the "centro storico" does an excellent job providing an experience that is true to the concept of an authentic osteria. More importantly, the husband and wife team of Roberto & Agnese have created a wonderful atmosphere with a menu that reflects the tradition of "cacciatore" and the "pesce del lago". Add to this, pasta that is truly "made in the house" you have what we call in the states "a home run". The Pici with any of the house sauces is not to be missed, nor the gnocchi with a delicate sauce of lake fish. To begin, ask for an antipasto for a sampling of the salumeria and bruschetta that Umbria is known for. For second courses we love either the duck prepared in the style of "cacciatore" or the pork in a red wine sauce. For those adventuresome fish lovers, there is the carpe regina , a large carp, prepared in the style of porchette which basically means that it is loaded with the flavors of rosemary and wild fennel. For wine lovers, give yourself some time to survey the extensive collection of Tuscan and Umbrian wines that are displayed along the walls of the restaurant. Finally, I can not say enough about the warm welcome we receive at Le Scallette. To sum up, this is a restaurant we bring friends and guests to. It never disappoints and always lives up to its earned reputation as an authentic osteria in the green heart of Umbria.

We had dinner here on our trip in the region. Our table was on the veranda outside where we could see a small portion of the lake. Unfortunately, the road was busy, being the main road of access to the historic center and sometimes the smell was not pleasant. The lady serving the tables was nice and efficient. I had delicious grated vegetables and "Pici all'aglione" that were too watery and not particularly tasty. My wife had fried fish that was good as the tagliatelle with truffle her parents got. Not a bad place but there are better (and more expensive) options in the area.

We have been to this lovely small restaurant quite a few times now and are never disappointed by the lovely service and the quality of the food. This was a supper stop, we shared a mixed starter and both had hope made pasta dishes which were excellent. The lady makes the pasta at the counter throughout the meal. The service was excellent as was the wine choice - it is a small restaurant which specialises in home made food - give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Came here for an evening meal after it was recommended by a local. What a great find, wonderful place that you can find only if you hear about it. It's outside the walls and not touristic at all with good prices and very tasty authentic Italian food, lovely hostess and chef.
We had a mix of antipasti cured meat for first course, followed by the local specialty of cat fish and deer meat with pasta.
Best fish we've ever eaten.
Lovely house wine.
Tiramisu was heaven.
Nice espresso and then desert wine on the house.
Best meal!!
Highly recommended
Price 50 euros, not bad at all.

Thank sharon s
