My wife and I stayed here for two nights in early October ‘12 and we enjoyed it very much. Of our 9 hotels in Italy this was definitely one of the most pleasant. With one reservation (described below) we highly recommend it.
One outstanding quality of the Langhe is the service provided by the friendly, welcoming, and efficient staff. This began when we checked in and were offered a glass of wine or a coffee as the paperwork was completed. It continued with dining suggestions and making reservations for us, and with casual, friendly conversation. Another example was when we encountered a slight problem with our room. We had requested a room on a higher floor, which got translated as “highest” and we were shown a large and attractive attic room that had only narrow windows along the top of the walls, too high to see out. When we suggested we’d rather have a room with more of a view outside, even if it was on a lower floor, we were immediately given a lovely corner room with windows along one side and french doors leading to a small balcony on another.
The lobby area, hallways, and rooms are decorated with original art and stylish, sometimes quirky furnishings. Our room was large and attractively furnished in earth tones, with a comfortable queen bed, night stands, built-in desk and closet with safe, but no mini-bar or small fridge. The bathroom was good sized and attractively tiled. There was a pedestal sink with plenty of storage space on a marble counter adjacent, and a tub/shower combination. A couple of minor complaints: the shower curtain was a bit discolored and needed replacing, and there was some moldy grout in areas around the tub.
Breakfast was a very nice buffet with fruit, meat, yogurt, pastries, and coffee to order. It was served in the small, attractive lobby area and adjoining wine-tasting room.
Wifi was included and worked well.
Now for the reservation – location. The Langhe is on the edge of town, a short drive to the old town area. Although the grounds of the hotel are attractive and nicely landscaped, the surroundings are not attractive. The entrance to the hotel property is near an auto body shop and there are several large commercial building surrounding the hotel. The hotel has certainly made the best of it, however, and once inside everything is pleasant. If you can overlook this one negative, the Langhe is a very good choice for exploring Alba and the wine area.
