This restaurant was recommended by our hotel as being typical of the region and popular with the local people. It was the truffle festival so we started with fettuccini with truffles which was wonderful. My husband then had a steak dish and I had a delicious veal dish. Service was friendly and fun. We managed to understand each other and our server was lovely. We had glasses of local wine and total meal was 63 euros.
We sat outside in the sidewalk and watched the world go by. casual and terrific.

Not sure I ate in the same restaurant as Peter M. My wife and I had veal with polenta, house wine, Bonet for me and tiramisu for my wife and grappa. Each course was delicious and served in a friendly atmosphere. We ate 2 nights before at Piazza Duomo, the 3 star Michelin restaurant in Alba. Was it the same quality? Of course not! Cost of 55 Euros as compared to 250 Euros may help explain the difference. If Steven M wants 3 star meals, he should expect to pay for it. For the rest of us this represents an affordable, tasty meal in a friendly atmosphere.
The restaurant had no empty tables, reflecting I suspect its reputation, as a good meal at a reasonable price.

We wanted it to be good, but it wasn't. It had all the trappings of a classic family trattoria: short menu, focussed on local produce; good wines available by glass, carafe or bottle - amply displayed around the shelved walls of the little dining room; salumi hanging ready for slicing; open entrance to a spotless kitchen; a few daily specials chalked up on the board. However.........or as the Italians would say, Pero................When we came to order, two of the 5 Mains were not available. A bad start. Then a Vitello Tonnato arrived which at first sight seemed to be the wrong dish. Cornets of overcooked beef [it did not look young enough to be veal] laid on a plate, with a pot of yellow liquid placed to the side - this turned out to be the tuna fish sauce. The 'veal' was dry and stringy - any juiciness it once had was boiled out and away. The sauce was dire, no other word for it. I'm sorry, this was simply not Vitello Tonnato.
The home made fettuccine was superb, a complete contrast to the antipasti. But the Secondi - a fillet steak and a beef tranche braised in barolo - were poor. 50% of the fillet - which was more like an entrecote, anyway - had to be discarded as too chewy and gristly. The braised beef was like old boots. Some oven potatoes in accompaniment had been pre-cooked and were cold and clammy, as was a slice of polenta.
A shared tiramisu was OK, the wines were good and fair value. Service was prompt and very cheerful. But...Oh! It could and should have been so much better!
