Our room was on the 2nd floor, with a beautiful mountain view adorned with white local houses. It was spacious and comfy. Bathroom's a little dated, but it's very clean. The housekeeping man's friendly, offering to make up our room every day. Reception staff were generally welcoming.
What we liked most about Mutrah is its excellent location. No giant malls around but
just shops frequented by locals, so that we could taste the ordinary Omani way of life, albeit only a few days.
We also loved the reception area. It's exceptionally well designed, with little quinessential Arabic chandeliers here and there. And how could we forget the old-fashioned lift? It brought us back to our childhood days in the 70s. We enjoyed every lift ride, opening and closing the door ourselves. Despite its age, the lift is very well maintained.
Another special thing about the hotel is its bar, where you can easily socialize with other guests, Omanis in particular, over a game of snooker. It's probably the best way to spend an evening after a long day trip to attractions like Jebel Shams.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Mutrah and in Oman.
