“All day sunshine balcony, central location”
Reviewed 29 May 2017 for a stay in May 2017

Most readers of this review will be considering booking , and some will be looking for more info after booking, and so I will write it with that in mind.

The apartment has an amazing balcony that gets the sun from dawn until sunset, and has a direct view over the sea to Split, Trogir and the land beyond. It is in a town that has supermarkets and eating out facilities, and is connected to the airport and both towns above by a frequent bus service. Apartment has reliable WIFI and , although small, has pretty much everything you require, I would not hesitate to recommend as long as you are reasonably mobile ,like the sun, and not expecting too much from Kastel Kombelovac itelf. Booking was very easy, good communications and we could check in and leave at times that suited us,

The remainder of the review will be more detail for those going, and will perhaps explain why not 5 stars!. The welcome instructions we received detailed to get a 37 bus rom the airport to Kastel Kambelovac (across from Ribelo supermarket) and then walk down to apartment. The bus does not actually go into the airport so you need to be aware that you will exit the airport and cross the main road to get the bus. Waiting for the bus (with 3 other couples) we were approached by car drivers claiming to be taxis offering cheaper transport to Split. The bus driver overcharged everybody paying , and we had the misfortune of having this driver again on other journeys and he did the same to everybody. SO look out for a large guy , about 50 with a military looking crew cut.

There is a sign for Kastel Kambelovac, however on a busy bus it is easy to miss. We approached the driver on a couple of occasions simply saying the town name which he responded to by speaking in Croatian. Eventually he beckoned us to exit, We asked at a local shop to discover he had let us off about 2 miles past the town, So a unpleasant hike along a busy road avoiding puddles ensued,

SO I would recommend wither getting a taxi rom the airport, or If you are getting the bus the Ribola supermarket you are looking for is a larger on (you will pass a few) and keep our eyes peeled for the town sign!

The stairs to the apartment are steep and winding. There are mats stuck to each stair but only by tape and so they can slip under your feet. The apartment is very small, you will get used to squeezing past each other , and we moved the bed out at night to allow both parties access!. Towels are plentiful.

In the kitchen there are enough plates and pots, we bought and left a colander, There are no basics like salt or oil supplied but supermarket is reasonably priced. We noticed after a few days a large "NO ALCOHOL" sign on the fridge was very strange, Certainly not something we had experienced in our travels!

The town itself isn't spectacular. If you were walking between the Kastel towns you probably wouldn't stop in Kastel Kobelovac, Other towns have prettier streets, more to see, But as a base it is fine, We only ate once at the hotel and ordered the seafood platter at about £20 for 2. What came was pretty inedible, bony fish and unprepared prawns. Luckily the side plate of chips were delicious!.
The 37 bus to Split leaves takes you slightly outside the centre, and worth noting where the bus station is for return, Definitely worth a visit itself, and the ferry port gives access to other islands. We chose Salta because it was close, but didn't really research enough. The ferry arrives in a town with little going on so best to either hire a bike in SPlit, or get one of the buses that meet the ferry the other towns. The timetable had 5.30 as final return and we met the incoming ferry at about 5.15 . Actually until June the last return is 6.30 but we only found this out from another couple who had made the same mistake , although ferry staff could see we were queuing.

Trogir is also worth a visit, tho rather "touristy" with endless restaurants a people trying to entice you eat there. We hired bikes from the travel agent at the end of the main promenade. We noticed after a short part of the ride that both had soft tyres so returned to have them inflated, Unfortunately one of the bikes had a more serious flat tyre , and gearing issues . SO our excursion round the coast from Trogir to the land you can see from the apartment was more difficult than anticipated, On returning the bikes the faults weren't noted and even suggested that it was us inflating the tyres that caused the problem!

The temperature was in the high 20's for the whole trip , which was excessive for us, We were expecting a similar climate to Northern Italy for late May, but it was way hotter. There is no shade on the balcony so we had umbrellas up to keep cool.

Buses are regular and cheap, as is the ferry prices. Supermarket prices cheap at bout £80p a 500ml beer (huge choice) and food cheaper than UK. Eating out can be cheap for the likes of pizza, but seafood has a premium price tag!

In conclusion a good holiday apartment in an interesting location.

“Excellent accommodation, very clean”
Reviewed 10 September 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Loved this apartment and the view. The lady in charge was so helpful and the apartment is just a short hop from the airport. Plenty to do and see in nearby areas. Lovely swimming just a stroll away. The apartment had all we need in it

“great location and view”
Reviewed 28 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Good location for visiting Split and Trogir (well worth a visit). Lovely view from the balony. Watch your head for taller guests as the kitchen area has a sloping roof and is the size of a sink unit with a 2 ring hob attached to the drainer making it difficult to wash up or cook as there is no work surface.

“fantastic location”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

What a fantastic view and great location. It far exceeded my expectations. Tea, the housekeeper, was very helpful recommending restaurants and telling us bus times. The no.37 bus was operating every 20 mins and took us to Trogir and Split town and also from the airport to the accommodation. Great to stay somewhere where the majority of people were locals - all very laid back. The resort had 2 supermarkets, handful of bars and restaurants. Great walk along the coast to other villages. I can't wait to return to Croatia, it was so cheap it was unbelievable. If you like sitting in a cafe people watching then its the perfect holiday !!!!

Liked best: The apartment was close enough to the main cities that you could get out and have a full day exploring but it was very nice to return to your own little house in the evening and having the privacy that isn't always available in hostels.
Liked least: Having to leave at the end of the holiday!
