When we first drove down to Marina di Novaglie, we were captured by the light, the rocks and the sea. There are only 2 places to eat at the Marina; we walked down the steps closer to the bay and found Lo Scalo where we had coffee. After looking at the Christmas lunch set menu, we made the reservation. Christmas Day was a shining sunny day; our table near the window had lots of light and the welcome from Cesare made us feel very comfortable. The dishes served were all very good; once we had to warn Cesare to slow down so that we could enjoy our lunch and not feel too heavy. During the breaks we looked at the numerous photos of movie and music celebrities who visited this place through the years. Having been previously In some Caribbean island, at the Seychelles, in Acapulco and in Australia it is not difficult to imagine why this place is so magic. Perhaps the low season had a part in the owner choice of the average wine and the insignificant seafood salad amongst the starters but on their side has to be mentioned the kindness to substitute some dishes due to one of us having a shellfish allergy.

We went twice to Lo Scalo as a group of 7 of which 4 adults. Once for lunch and once for dinner. We ordered among many other things a big fish cooked in salt and it was at the level expected given the price. The other dishes were fresh and sophisticated. Very good service. One can also go there for the day as they rent sun beds on the rocks. Not suited for very young kids as you need to jump to go in the water and to get out you will need shoes to walk on the rocks. But the view is spectacular and the young Italian guys jumping from a higher rock was an enjoyable show

I didn't want to be unfair and give this a one star. The venue is great, the staff is good and very patient with children.

However, for the price, the food is so-so. What really annoyed me is that we ordered lobster pasta and selected a 5 kilogram (11 lbs) lobster (for which we were charged 150 EURO). When the pasta came out each past bowl had one bite of lobster in it. I am not exaggerating. They brought out the huge lobster in a plate to 'prove' that it had been cooked. Sure it had, but we didn't get all the meat, not even a fraction of it. There was a touch left in the joint before the claw (the carpus for fellow lobster lovers). THAT WAS IT.

I politely asked the waiter what happened to the meat and in his best english he explained that the lobster was so fresh it contained a lot of water so it shrinks a lot as the water is boiled out. That probably works on most tourists but since I have experience catching lobsters and cooking them within minutes of taking them out of the water, I knew it was a fib. I didn't want to make a scene, so I paid but vowed I'd give a review. If you go, order a drink and go eat somewhere with a better reputation.

A great restaurant with great seafood, good wine and excellent service. The position of the place adds to the ambience, but the standout feature is the food.
Definitely a place to visit

A very beautiful place on the seafront where delicious fresh fish is served, at a premium. Our meal was unfortunately spoiled by a poor service. Our waiter forgot to bring us bread, wine and did not care for our table. We will not go back
