We stayed at the tranquil and luxurious Villa Howden over Easter and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The service and attention provided by Melanie and Jess, in particular, was of an unwaveringly excellent standard! Nothing was too much trouble for these two delightful staff members. Congratulations!

New Manager. Couldn't do enough to make our stay wonderful. Nice room with a view. Comfortable room. Loved the atmosphere and the architecture. Unfortunate that no dinner served on Sun & Mon nights. Great drawing room that was very well apppointed and comfy.

Thanks so much for your review of Villa Howden. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We do like to keep our meals quite casual on a Sunday and Monday (when we're a little quieter). Hopefully we see you again soon so that you can enjoy some of our delicious main courses.

My new wife and I decided to visit Tasmania for a look at some of the sights. This place is 35 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from Hobart.

It is set in the countryside and is a lovely old villa with traditional grand French architecture . The inside is decorated like this as well giving you the impression you are back in time a few hundred years .

There are only 10 guest rooms , a dining room and an indoor swimming pool. This is a nice little boutique hotel with friendly obliging staff .

I did notice we arrived late at 1030 pm and had trouble finding anyone at reception . That is the thing with these types of accommodations in that there will not be lots of staff around . My wife also could not connect to wifi in our room.

However , apart from these minor glitches everything else was good . I was sitting in the drawing room early on Sunday morning by myself marking exam papers and the lovely young lady served me a cup of tea on the house. Interestingly the next day , it did not happen as there was a different staff member.

We had breakfast twice in the dining room which was beautifully presented in that old architecture . The food was fine , but the there was only one staff member serving the tables again because the hotel caters only for ten rooms.

This place is a welcome change to the normal hotels . It could be 5 star with a few refinements

Thank you for your very thoughtful review of Villa Howden. It is such a tranquil place that offers, as you said, something a little different. We appreciate your feedback with the wifi, and we're currently in the process of looking to make some technical changes. We do hope to see you and your wife again sometime soon.

This accommodation was booked by my partner who had organised a weekend away in Hobart for my birthday.

It's about 15 minutes drive from Hobart, therefore if travelling from interstate, a car is necessary. The villa is on a large property nestled among bushland, landscaped with beautiful gardens, patios and paths. It is what I imagine an old french villa to look like.

Our room overlooked the water, with views of the gardens below. We liked the special touches Villa Howden provided, like the included items in the mini bar, and turn down service each evening with new amenities on our pillows every night. We also enjoyed playing chess in the games room, and indulging a glass of local Tasmanian pinot noir in front of the open fire in one of the lounges.

We ended up having two dinners at the intimate restaurant on site, although not cheap, we thought the excellent quality of the food and impeccable service matched the prices. The menu boasts all local Tasmanian produce, including the famous Bruny Island oysters (which converted me into an oyster eater). Both nights we received a complementary canapé before our meal, which was a nice touch. Our only suggestion would be to please include more selections of wines on the wine list.

The most memorable part of our stay was the excellent service we experienced from every single staff member, from check-in to check-out. When we arrived (late on a Friday afternoon), I believe the kitchen was closed, however the chef was more than happy to prepare us a local produce platter with Tasmanian cheeses. Staff here at Villa Howden really go above and beyond to ensure you are spoilt during your stay.

We hope to return and definitely would recommend this place to anybody who wants an alternative to the usual large, 'city' style hotel.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Villa Howden, and that you had a wonderful birthday. Sitting by the roaring fire certainly is one of the best spots to nestle into here. Also, a big warm welcome to the oyster lovers club. We're a little bias, but the seafood in Tasmania is by far second to none. We are also looking into changing up our wine list, and appreciate the suggestion. We hope to have you both stay again sometime in the future.

Dinner at this venue was a big mistake. The meals were a VERY small serving and most people in our group commented that the main course was barely warm, yet overcooked ! Bottled wine was WAY too expensive - 250% above retail. Nice dessert. Waitress was very pleasant.
