This resort is a 7 star property and in my opinion a must stay property in Ubud. It's all about the service and how they make you feel. It all starts with a warm welcome with your butler , the manager , and rest of the welcome team.
Everything was perfect! Our patih, Louis, made sure of it. We had a wonderful full day excursion, where Gudse took us to many unique places you would never find yourself. After day 1, the team at Sawah Terrace knew my order before i placed it.
Warning: you will be spoilt!

One of our favorite activities was the Connect to reconnect program, Dinar and Pragynaan were so knowledgeable , when we did the BalineseHerbal Healing.

The only other properties I find comparable are the Royal Mansour and Udaivillas.

I do not often post a review but felt compelled to write a review for this absolutely perfect resort and experience. I have been an Ambassador with Bonvoy for several year and visited many of the properties but i cannot say or think of one area of improvement or thought that says i wish this was different or the service good be a little better. FROM THE MOMENT WE WERE GREATED TO THE MOMENT WE LEFT IT WAS JUST EXCELLANT. The management team, Rooms Director, our personal butler and the staff who helped us at every step was amazing. They just know how to make it feel so special, professionally without being overwhelming in anyway. Room, restaurants, SPA, YOGU, POOLS and THE VIEWS!!!!! If you are even thinking of visiting Bali or planning a visit and the Mandapa is on your mind, think no further and just book your room and you will not be disappointed. Our river view suite was like something from a novel so if you can swing it, go big!!

I will never forget this magical experience. My husband and I visited the Mandapa during our honeymoon and were blown away by their hospitality and attention to detail. We stayed in the villas (thank you for upgrade!) which had a cute cottage vibe with a living room and private pool. Throughout our stay, we participated in the many activities the resort offers (specifically the Disconnect to Reconnect program) including yoga and cooking classes. The instructors were so friendly and attentive, special thanks to Wayan and Dinar. We also spent a considerable amount of time at the resort pool, which felt like a little oasis. The food on property was INCREDIBLE and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate dietary restrictions. Chef Raju made us special dishes every morning which were delicious. We tried every restaurant on property and couldn't pick a favorite because each one was exceptional in its own way. On our departure, Chef Raju gave us a jar of mango chutney that he specifically made for us during one of the breakfasts! The property also assigns you a butler during your stay - Louie was AMAZING - very timely and proactive with arranging our daily activities and transportation needs. The property itself is STUNNING, very well kept and has beautiful views of luscious greenery. We were also fortunate to meet the property manager Reka, who went out of her way to ensure a memorable stay. We definitely plan on coming back!

Mandapa is the newest ultra-luxury resorts on the island, and is one of three Ritz-Carleton Reserve properties in the world. In our 3 1/2 weeks in Java and Bali, this was our final stop before returning home to the US. We spent 6 nights here in a beautiful one bedroom suite with separate living room and large terrace high up on the property which cascades down through rice fields to the river, with a gorgeous backdrop view of tropical rainforest. (Now that we have experienced Mandapa, rather than staying in one of the suite buildings next time we will stay in a rice field view pool villa. Some of these provide more privacy than others, so best to check when booking.)

Notable are the crisp and luxurious bed linens and fluffy sumptuous towels, and the beautiful site-specific Balinese paintings.

On day 5, Resort Manager, Reka, came to my table at breakfast and apologized for not meeting us before but she’d been away at a Women’s Leadership retreat. Other staff whom I’d like to call out are Ade - front desk manager, and Ari - main restaurant manager, who greeted us at breakfast every morning. Also, we both participated in the “Disconnect to Reconnect” program which is apparently something new at Mandapa. While every resort we stayed at on this 3 1/2 week trip offered at least occasional yoga, this extensive program has a wide array of cultural, spiritual, and physical offerings that occur during the day. We loved yoga and singing bowls with Wayan and participated in several of his sessions.

A few minor things of note, as a lap swimmer, I had difficulty with the freeform pool and kept running into the undulating walls, though it’s lovely to look at. Also, lighting in the suite, particularly in the bathroom is insufficient. Though there’s a stylish countertop makeup mirror, it is useless; replacing these would be an easy fix. Finally, when I am in Asia, I prefer to listen to Asian music; quite incongruous and somewhat disconcerting to hear “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” while gazing out over rice fields and tropical forest in Bali. In my view, the main negative is that because of the hillside setting, lobby accessibility by foot is nearly impossible. As one who enjoys walking and exercise, I wasn’t fond of needing to depend upon someone to drive me there via “buggy” when I wanted to go into Ubud. That said, accessibility into Ubud is quite easy and quick via Grab (app similar to Lyft or Uber), and because of Mandapa’s location north of town.

Staff went above and beyond expectations in every way. We were almost always greeted by name, and our preferences in all things were remembered. Our French patih (butler), Louie, was delightful, leaving gorgeous flower arrangements, facilitating gifting of items I’d admired and had wanted to buy, and everything was with a hand-written note. We even received a lovely note from our housekeepers.

Mandapa is truly a cut above and provided a most wonderful ending to our first trip to the magical island of Bali.

My wife and I had the fortune and pleasure of discovering Mandapa last year quite by accident, as I articulated in my rather lengthy review from that stay. We were so moved by this place, the staff, the food, and the beauty that we started planning our return the moment we left the resort for the airport. So, we came back this year to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

To experience the magic of Mandapa, even once in a lifetime, is a blessing for someone like me; to have the privilege of experiencing it a second time is very humbling. We booked our stay during our anniversary in November, which is also the “off” season. That was a good thing for us, as with only about 40% occupancy, the staff could afford to spoil us even more than expected, and they did.

After the warm and ceremonial welcome, where we were given the traditional Tridatu bracelets, of which I still had mine on from last year, we were given a quick orientation of the property and, to our delight, taken to the same villa we had last year. We were happy to see that there had been some slight upgrades to the property since our previous visit, mainly with the landscaping, which was already gorgeous, but now, with the addition of more plants and flowers and a smoother brick pathway, it was even more so.

What had not changed, however, were many of the same sweet faces that we came to know last year. We were thrilled to see our Paithi/ Butler from last year, Parmini, and especially happy she was expecting her second child. Even though she was working in the office until she delivers, she still made time to visit with us. Parmini is fantastic in every way and truly epitomizes the very essence of what makes Mandapa such a lovely and wonderful place.

Fortunately, we were attended to this year by the hard-working and capable Agung. This young man is brilliant and was always a step ahead of us in anticipating our thoughts, needs, and desires. He was always a WhatsApp and a few minutes away, often showing up just as I was typing him a message. We could not have been looked after any better.

Seeing old friends and partaking in more wonderful meals at the other restaurants on the property was so lovely. At the Sawah Terrace, Ari, Mia, Jordi, and Juli were a delight to see again. These fabulous, fun, and friendly folks were like family. Thanks to this incredible staff, each dining session was a wonderful and memorable experience, especially our anniversary night on the terrace!

At the pool bar one day, we were thrilled to get a master class on the locally produced alcohol known as Arak by mixologist Oka. Arak is a traditional Balinese alcohol made from fermented white rice and coconut palm flowers, among other ingredients. Oka took us on a journey through the process of making Arak and sampling the various types. It was fascinating and tasty. Overseeing the Food and beverage service is the awesome Ngurah. He was everywhere all the time. You could not sit in one of the restaurants or bars without seeing him chatting with the guest and ensuring everyone was happy with their eats and treats.

We also had a wonderful evening by the river at Kubu. The lovely and sweet Kadak attended to us. Her attentiveness and dedication to perfection ensured our meal was most memorable. Sitting in our cocoon, listening to the sounds of the river and the wildlife, and enjoying the cool breeze with delicious dishes and expert service makes for a great night in anyone's book.

Like last year, we did partake in a couple of the many activities the resort offers. Particularly the spa. After last year’s fantastic experience, we had to do it again. We opted for the Royal Spice ceremony. What a unique and relaxing 2-1/2 hour experience! The ceremony, the treatment, and the atmosphere made for one of the best spa experiences we have ever had. Even better than last year!

No visit to Mandapa would be complete without the classic car tour. Mandapa has seven or so old, restored VW convertibles for taking guests out sightseeing and souvenir shopping. Our tour guide for the day was Eri, along with the finest Bali driver. Unfortunately, I could not remember our driver’s name, but he was fantastic. Eri was excellent. His depth of knowledge and presentation of the history of Bali was riveting. We talked for the entire four hours non-stop. My appreciation for Balinese and Hindu culture increased significantly after this tour. We highly recommend it!

One great new addition to the property this year is the Anbar restaurant and bar. This beautiful place is situated at the top of the overlook and affords the best sunset views in Bali. Additionally, there is live Jazz every night by fantastic and talented local bands. We were fortunate to be attended to by the wonderful and sweet Vivian. This young lady had a smile that could melt a glacier, and we were lucky to get her both nights we dined there. Chef Wayan and Chef Aris made some of the most delicious and beautiful dishes anywhere, definitely Michelin-worthy, while mixologist Abbi made us some of the most tasty, unique, and delectable drinks in all of Bali.

As I approach 2000 stays in Marriott properties around the world, I have had the dismay of staying in some of the worst properties on the Marriott books, most of which are in the US, and I have had the pleasure of staying in some of the best. The recipe for a great stay is simple: the quality of the staff, the property's location and condition, and the management's ability. Mandapa is fortunate to have the best of all of these. Kudos to the resort manager, Reka Yanti. Reka was always out and about on the property, tending to the staff or checking on the guest. Her warm smile and attentiveness are directly reflected in the overall guest experience at Mandapa.

The great American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Every particular in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment of time is related to the whole, and partakes of the perfection of the whole.” Thus, at Mandapa, every staff member, every meal and drink served, every spectacular sunrise, breathtaking sunset, and quiet moment spent admiring its beauty come together to create magic and perfection. Simply put, Mandapa is Sempurna.
