“relaxed parents + blissfully happy children = recipe for a perfect holiday”
Reviewed 2 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This cottage is ideal for a young family looking to spend a fun but relaxing time in beautiful surroundings but with all the comforts of home. We booked a week, quite last minute for the end of June in order to get away before the hoards of summer holidayers descended and were lucky enough to find La Maison Bleue. We stayed in Dominique, which is the 3 bed property and it was beautifully decorated but still simple enough not to worry too much about my two year old and 4 year old. Tiled floor, clean and practical bathrooms, nicely equipped kitchen etc... The pool is fenced in and separate from the expansive garden with play equipment which meant we could release the children to the joys of trampolining and swinging and sliding and playing in the hammock and on the ride-on toys and little wooden playhouse without worrying about them going near the water. Of course it was difficult to drag them away from e pool once they were in it, but there were lots of little towns with markets and stunning sandy beaches within 45 minutes to an hour's drive so we had a few morning trips out and lots of picnics.

For young children it's worth remembering that most restaurants don't serve dinner until 7/7.30 so we mainly ate out at midday and had BBQs in the evening. The owners, Rae and JC kept us supplied with wine from their well-stocked cave and the first meal we had ordered upon arrival was ideal and very tasty.

The other holiday house was occupied by a family with a young son who, along with Rae's daughter, played with our two very happily, but the cottages are thoughtfully situated so that you can sit on your own terrace in the evenings and feel nicely secluded with no pressure to socialise if you don't feel like it.

I can't think of anything I would have changed, even the poor wifi in the area was a nice change of pace. The weather was in the mid 20s, which meant the pool was a good temperature and the stone cottage stayed cool and pleasant at night.

In the bid to get the most out of the last day, we didn't take enough care with our packing and left all the boys' favourite books in the bedroom, but Rae has very kindly organised their return to us in England. Little extras like this and the welcome basket and hints and tips on where to go and what to see, extra milk when we failed to get to the supermarket before bedtime, makes her an excellent host!

“Fabulous home from home!”
Reviewed 9 February 2015 for a stay in August 2013

Stayed at La Maison Bleue with my family including my mum and dad and our two kids (one aged 2.5 and one aged 3 months. Had a wonderful stay - accommodation was lovely and felt very homely and the kids area in the garden and the pool were just perfect, making the stay more relaxing when travelling with little ones.

Rae and JC were fantastic hosts and made us feel so welcome (even inviting our daughter for dinner as she played with their daughter for much of the holiday). We felt as though we were staying with friends!

We had everything we needed, even sampled some fantastic wines with great recommendations from our hosts!

My parents loved the stay too and will no doubt visit again in the near future.
The surrounding area is fantastic for exploring and Rae was always so helpful with planning where to visit!

thanks for helping make our holiday memorable! ; )

“Home from home - plus lovely pool, French countryside and near beaches”
Reviewed 10 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We spent 2 wonderful weeks staying in this lovely gite in the French countryside not far from Bordeaux. The owners were really welcoming, providing lots of good tips on where to go and what to do, a truly memorable wine-tasting evening, and not forgetting the way their kids welcomed ours into their world for 2 weeks! For us, the property worked well with the grandparents accommodated downstairs with the ensuite while we took the other two bedrooms upstairs. We all loved exploring the local towns, markets, vineyards, restaurants and of course the wonderful beaches - followed by relaxing every afternoon around the superb pool and gardens.

“Perfect for families, even Mum & Dad relaxed!”
Reviewed 5 September 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We have spent the last few years with our young daughter and son holidaying in Spain in hotels and were looking for a change of pace this year.
We certainly found it during our stay at La Maison Blueue.
We stayed in La Dominique, which is a tastefully renovated barn, there are enough mod cons to make it feel like home, but it has a rustic feel which gives the place a really nice charm.
All the bedrooms were nicely furnished and the general cleanliness of the gite was very good.
We received a lovely hamper on arrival and treated ourselves to some of Rae's home made cooking, which went down a treat on our first evening.
JC and Rae are very welcoming and will do their best to help with most things, from providing gas lighters to BBQ coals, lest forgetting the bread run! Or emergency wine supplies, for my wife!
Outside the gite to the front is a lovely small courtyard where the kids would run around and amuse themselves with local wildlife (small lizards), but walking out of the rear of the gite onto a nice patio and sitting looking over the pool, was the best.
The kids loved the pool, playing for hours in there and the garden directly behind it, is perfect for young kids, it is safe, has plenty of outdoor toys and allows Mom and Dad to relax whilst the kids entertain themselves.
The property is located in an extremely quiet hamlet, but within 5-10 minutes drive, all the usual local facilities are available.
Within 15-20 minutes drive are a plethora of beautiful little towns that are a pleasure to walk around, in addition the beach at Meschers is fantastic.
We tended to go out in the morning and then spend the warm afternoons cooling off, in effect our own pool.
In all honesty, this is the first time we have fully managed to de-stress on holiday since having the kids over 6 years ago, so would thoroughly recommend for young families.
We have been looking around this area, at similar properties since our return, but have decided to go back to La Maison Blueue for our holiday next year, guess we enjoyed it that much!
